Thomas Bowes (translator)
Thomas Bowes ( fl. 1586) was an English translator. Bowes was educated at Clare College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1579–80 and MA in 1583. This identification is made by the ''ODNB''; the first edition of the ''DNB'' suggested other identifications: "Strype mentions a certain Thomas Bowes, M.A., of Queens' College, Cambridge, whom some have identified with the translator." He translated into English the first and second parts of the ''French Academy'', a moral and philosophical treatise written by Peter of Primaudaye, a French writer of the late-16th century. The translation of the first part was published in 1586; it seemed to have met with immediate popularity, for a fifth edition was issued in 1614. Along with the third edition in 1594 was published the translation of the second part. To both parts, Bowes prefixes a letter to the reader; in the longer of the two (prefixed to the second part), J. Thomas Bowes (violinist)
Thomas Bowes (born 1960) is an English violinist and orchestra leader. Life and career Thomas Bowes was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, and graduated from Trinity College of Music in 1982, where he studied violin under Bela Katona. Bowes played with the London Philharmonic beginning in 1985 and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields beginning in 1986. He made his debut as a soloist in London in 1987. Bowes was a founding member of the Maggini String Quartet and served as leader from 1988-92. In 1989 he began serving as leader of the London Mozart Players, where he led the ensemble at their BBC Proms debut in 1991. Bowes has served as guest leader of orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, the Philharmonia, and the French L’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse. Tommy Bowe
Thomas John Bowe (born 22 February 1984) is an Irish former rugby union player from County Monaghan, Ireland. He played on the wing for Ulster, Ireland and the British & Irish Lions. In March 2012, after four years with Ospreys in Swansea, Wales, he returned to Ulster for the 2012/13 season. After his playing career, Bowe has taken up television presenting, and is a host of morning television show ''Ireland AM''. Career Early career A former pupil of The Royal School, Armagh, Bowe was a schoolboy provincial full-back, only converting to wing whilst playing for Ireland U-21s. Bowe played Gaelic football from U10 level with Emyvale, his local GAA club and he also ran for the Glaslough Harriers and represented his local parish Donagh in the All-Ireland Community Games and went to Mosney with the Monaghan Relay team.
