The Who Tour 1979
The Who Tour 1979 was The Who's first concert tour since the death of original drummer Keith Moon. The tour supported their 1978 album ''Who Are You'', and consisted of concerts in Europe and the United States and acknowledged the band's return to live performance. History Following Keith Moon's death in September 1978, The Who decided to continue as a band, recruiting former Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones; keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick was also added to the line-up for live performances, adding another element to the band's sound. The Who
The Who are an English rock band formed in London in 1964. Their classic lineup consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, bass guitarist and singer John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. Heritage Bank Center
Heritage Bank Center is an indoor arena located in downtown Cincinnati, next to the Great American Ball Park. It was completed in September 1975 and named Riverfront Coliseum because of its placement next to Riverfront Stadium. In 1997, the facility became known as The Crown, and in 1999, it changed its name again to Firstar Center after Firstar Bank assumed naming rights. In 2002, following Firstar's merger with U.S. Bank, the arena took on the name U.S. Bank Arena and kept that name until 2019. The arena seats 17,556 people and is the largest indoor arena in the Greater Cincinnati region with of space. The arena underwent a $14 million renovation project in 1997. ''Empty Glass'' is the second solo studio album by English rock musician Pete Townshend, and his first composed of original material, released on 21 April 1980 by Atco Records. The album deals with issues that Townshend was struggling with at the time, including alcoholism, drug abuse, marital problems and deceased friends, particularly Keith Moon, the Who's former drummer, who died in 1978. ''Empty Glass'' also contained the devotional love song, " Let My Love Open the Door", which became a Top 10 hit (#9) in the US, and the modestly successful singles " Rough Boys" (#89) and " A Little Is Enough" (#72). "Drowned" is a song written by Pete Townshend, the guitarist for the Who, for their sixth album, ''Quadrophenia''. Lyrics and music Music critic Chris Charlesworth describes "Drowned" as a "tough blues-based rocker." He states that the band loved to play it live since it was less complex than other songs from ''Quadrophenia''. ''Rolling Stone'' critic Dave Marsh describes the song as among the most interesting on the album. Who biographer John Atkins views the song as having "such purity of essence" that it may be the "quintessential ''Quadrophenia'' performance." An eight-string bass guitar is a type of bass guitar with double course strings normally tuned in octaves, with both strings in a course usually played simultaneously. As on a 12-string guitar, this produces a natural chorus effect due to the subtle differences in string timbre. 8-string bass guitars The eight-string bass guitar was invented by electrical engineer and musician Eric Krackow, who had played with Al Kooper's early band, The Aristo-Cats, in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Trick Of The Light (The Who Song)
"Trick of the Light" is a song written by bassist John Entwistle for The Who's eighth studio album, ''Who Are You''. It was released as the second single from the album, atypically with another Entwistle song, "905" on the B-side, but did not chart. The lyrics describe fear of being sexually inadequate in the face of a prostitute. The singer wants to have an emotional connection with the prostitute but she only sees him as dehumanized and recognizes his sexual insecurity. He is concerned that he didn't bring her "to the height of ecstasy." John Entwistle
John Alec Entwistle (9 October 194427 June 2002) was an English musician who was the bassist for the rock band The Who. Entwistle's music career spanned over four decades. Nicknamed "The Ox" and "Thunderfingers", he was the band's only member with formal musical training and also provided backing and occasional lead vocals. Entwistle was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Who in 1990. Renowned for his musical abilities, Entwistle's instrumental approach used pentatonic lead lines and a then-unusual treble-rich sound ("full treble, full volume"). Who Are You (The Who Song)
"Who Are You" is the title track on The Who's 1978 album, ''Who Are You'', the last album released by the group before Keith Moon's death in September 1978. Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea
Concerts for the People of Kampuchea was a series of concerts featuring Queen, The Clash, The Pretenders, The Who, Elvis Costello, Wings, and many more artists which took place at the Hammersmith Odeon in London during December 1979 to raise money for the victims of war-torn Cambodia. The event was organised by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim, and it involved artists such as McCartney and The Who as well as punk acts like The Clash and the Pretenders. The last of the concerts was the last concert of Wings. An album and EP were released in 1981, and the best of the concerts were released as a film, '' Concert for Kampuchea''. The Hammersmith Apollo, currently called the Eventim Apollo for sponsorship reasons, and formerly known as the Hammersmith Odeon, is a live entertainment performance venue, originally built as a cinema called the Gaumont Palace.
