The Unchastened Woman
''The Unchastened Woman'' is a 1925 American silent drama film starring vamp Theda Bara, directed by James Young, the former husband of Clara Kimball Young, and released by start-up studio Chadwick Pictures. The film is based on a 1915 Broadway play, ''The Unchastened Woman'', which starred Emily Stevens. This was Bara's "comeback" film and as it turned out her final feature appearance and is one of her few surviving films. The play was also filmed in 1918 with Grace Valentine. James Young (director)
James Young (January 1, 1872 – June 9, 1948) was an American film director, actor, and screenwriter of the silent era. Before films Young had a successful career as a stage actor appearing on Broadway and throughout the country, and was the author of a notable 1905 book on theatrical makeup. Young directed more than 90 films between 1912 and 1928. He also appeared as an actor in 60 films between 1909 and 1917. His first wife was librettist Rida Johnson Young who often composed with Victor Herbert. His second wife was film actress Clara Kimball Young, 18 years his junior, who kept his surname after they divorced. James Young died in New York City on June 9, 1948. Grace Valentine
Grace Valentine (February 14, 1884 – November 12, 1964) was an American stage and film actress. Early years Valentine was born in Springfield, Ohio. Career She began her career in the theater in 1905 and toured in stock companies for the next several years. She began her film career in 1915, but never ventured too far away from the legitimate stage. Valentine's Broadway debut came in ''The Yellow Jacket'' (1915). Her final Broadway appearance was in ''Anna Christie'' (1952). In 1929, she appeared in her first talkie and had sporadic parts in films for the next three years whereupon which she returned to the theatre. Valentine portrayed Minnie Grady, the title character's landlady, on the radio series '' Stella Dallas''. She also was heard on ''Lone Journey'' on radio. (23 April 1894 – 10 August 1970), also known as Tetsuo Komai, was a Japanese-American actor, known for his minor roles in Hollywood films. Frederick Kovert (sometimes written Ko Vert or KoVert) was an American female impersonator. Kovert appeared in drag in a number of comic roles in silent films of the 1920s. His first film role was in the 1920 film '' An Adventuress'', alongside Julian Eltinge, then the best-known female impersonator in the entertainment world. Katherine Duffy (13 February 1872 – 4 January 1943), known professionally as Kate Price, was an Irish-American actress. She is known for playing the role of Mrs. Kelly in the comedy series '' The Cohens and Kellys'', made by Universal Pictures between 1926 and 1932. Price appeared in 296 movies from 1910 to 1937. Dorothea "Dot" Farley (February 6, 1881 – May 2, 1971) was an American film actress who appeared in 280 motion pictures between 1910 and 1950. She was also known as Dorothy Farley. Biography Born in Chicago, Illinois, Dorothea Farley was the daughter of Eugene Farley and actress Alma Streeter. Her nickname originated when she sang and danced on stage billed as "Chicago's Little Dot" when she was three years old. Farley gained acting experience by working for six years in stock theater and made her film debut in 1910. Mainly known for her roles in short comedies, prolific with Mack Sennett in the silent days, she also appeared in Western films in the early 1910s. Eileen Percy
Eileen Percy (August 1902 – 29 July 1973) was an Irish-born American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1917 and 1933. Biography Born in Belfast in August 1902, Percy lived in Brooklyn, New York, briefly in 1903 before returning to Belfast. She came back to Brooklyn at age nine, entering a convent there. After graduating from the convent, she became a model for artists, including Charles Dana Gibson. Some of the pictures for which she posed were used for magazine covers. After her film career ended, Percy became a staff correspondent for the ''Pittsburgh Post-Gazette''. In 1919, Percy married Ulrich Busch. They divorced in 1930. Her second husband from 1936 was songwriter Harry Ruby. She died in Los Angeles, California, in 1973. Her remains are buried at Chapel of the Pines Crematory.
