The Red Light Bandit
''The Red Light Bandit'' ( pt, O Bandido da Luz Vermelha) is a 1968 Brazilian crime film directed by Rogério Sganzerla, inspired by the crimes of the real-life burglar João Acácio Pereira da Costa, known as the "Red Light Bandit" (''Bandido da Luz Vermelha''). The film is a representative work of ''cinema marginal'', the Brazilian underground filmmaking movement of the 1960s. Sganzerla was 21 years old when he directed it. Sganzerla called the film ''a Third World western''. Plot Jorge, a São Paulo house burglar, nicknamed by the press the "Red Light Bandit", baffles the police by using peculiar techniques. Always carrying a red flashlight, he rapes his victims, has long dialogues with them and makes daring escapes. Afterwards, he spends the profits of his crimes. The bandit's exploits are shown in a fragmented manner, voiced over by two narrators in the style of a sensationalistic radio program. Rogério Sganzerla
Rogério Sganzerla (4 May 1946 — 9 January 2004) was a Brazilian filmmaker. One of the main names of the '' cinema marginal'' underground movement, his most known work is ''The Red Light Bandit'' (1968). Sganzerla was influenced by Orson Welles, Jean-Luc Godard, and José Mojica Marins, and often used clichés from film noir and pornochanchadas. Irony, narrative subversion and collage were trademarks of his film aesthetics. Biography Sganzerla was born in Joaçaba, in the state of Santa Catarina. During the 1960 decade he wrote for the newspaper '' O Estado de S. Paulo'' as film reporter. In 1967 Sganzerla directed his first short film, ''Documentário''. Abraccine Top 100 Brazilian Films
In 2015, the (Abraccine) published a list with the 100 best Brazilian films ever according to the votes of its members. This poll was the basis for a book named ''The 100 Best Brazilian Films'', published in 2016. The idea of the ranking and the book was suggested by publisher Letramento, with whom Abraccine and television network Canal Brasil co-released the book. Carlos Oscar Reichenbach Filho (14 June 1945 – 14 June 2012) was a Brazilian filmmaker. Early life and career Reichenbach was born in Porto Alegre to Luise Reichenbach (née Tinger) and Carlos Reichenbach. Reichenbach was one year of age when he came to live in São Paulo.
