''The Magnificent Concubine'' () is a 1962 Hong Kong drama film. This movie was filmed in color. It was directed by Li Han Hsiang and is a remake of the 1955 Kenji Mizoguchi film '' Yōkihi''. ''The Magnificent Concubine'' was entered into the 1962 Cannes Film Festival The 15th Cannes Film Festival was held from 7 to 23 May 1962. The Palme d'Or went to the ''O Pagador de Promessas'' by Anselmo Duarte. The festival opened with '' Les Amants de Teruel'', directed by Raymond Rouleau. During the Cannes Film Fest .... Li Han Hsiang
Richard Li Han-hsiang (; 7 March 1926 in Jinxi, Liaoning – 17 December 1996 in Beijing) was a Chinese film director. Li directed more than 70 films in his career beginning in the 1950s and lasting till the 1990s. His '' The Enchanting Shadow'', ''The Magnificent Concubine'', and '' Empress Wu Tse-Tien'' were entered into the Cannes Film Festival in 1960, 1962, and 1963 respectively. Li also won the Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards for his work on the movie ''Xi Shi Xi Shi (Hsi Shih; , ) was, according to legends, one of the renowned Four Beauties of ancient China. Li Li-hua (; 17 July 1924 – 19 March 2017) was a Chinese actress, better known as an actress from the Shaw Brothers Studio. In 1957, Li married Hong Kong actor and director Yan Jun (嚴俊) (December 17, 1917 – August 18, 1980).Zhang (1995), pg 1165 Life and career Li Li-hua was born on July 17, 1924 in Shanghai. She was the daughter of famous Beijing Opera actor Li Guifang (李桂芳). At age 12 she moved to Beijing and studied Beijing Opera. Four years later she moved to Shanghai and joined the Yihua Film Company. Her first movie was ''3 Smiles'' (三笑) which was released in two parts in 1940. Her final movie was '' New Dream of the Red Chamber'' (新紅樓夢) in 1978, after which she retired and moved to the United States. Zhao Lei (actor)
Zhao Lei (; 1928 – 24 June 1996) was a Chinese actor who was one of the most popular male leads in the cinema of Hong Kong and Taiwan in the 1950s and 60s, often called the "Film Emperor". Zhao was born Wang Yumin () in Ding County, Hebei, China in 1928 and moved to Hong Kong in the 1940s. He began working for Shaw Brothers Studio in 1953, and left for Cathay-Keris Films ten years later. Zhao was given the Golden Horse Award for Best Leading Actor in 1966. He continued acting into the 1970s, and spent the latter half of the decade operating a restaurant in Taipei. In his acting career, Zhao appeared in over one hundred films. He died in Hong Kong of pneumonia on 24 June 1996, aged 68. Zhao's wife Shi Ying () was also an actress with Shaw Brothers.
