The Independent Chief Inspector Of The UK Border Agency
The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, formerly the Independent Chief Inspector of the UK Border Agency, is a government appointed official responsible for providing independent scrutiny of the UK's border and immigration functions such as the Border Force. The role of the Independent Chief Inspector was established by section 48 of the UK Borders Act 2007. In 2009, the Independent Chief Inspector's remit was extended to include customs functions and contractors. On 26 April 2009, the Independent Chief Inspector was also appointed to the statutory role of independent Monitor for Entry Clearance Refusals without the Right of Appeal as set out in section 23 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, as amended by section 4(2) of the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. David Neal (British Army Officer)
David Neal is the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration and a retired Royal Military Police officer. He was appointed by the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, in succession to David Bolt (civil servant), David Bolt who left the post in March 2021. Military career David Neal graduated from Bangor University with a BA in English Literature in 1993. He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst on Commissioning Course 933 and was commissioned into the Royal Military Police on 20 September 1994. After service on exercise and operations across the world, on 22 July 2016, he was appointed by Elizabeth II, The Queen as the Provost Marshal (Army) and Commander of 1st Military Police Brigade, 1 Military Police Brigade in the rank of Brigadier. He accepted the Freedom of the City of Salisbury on behalf of the Royal Military Police on 14 June 2018.
