The Elastic Purejoy
The Elastic Purejoy was an alternative rock group active in the mid 1990s and led by English bassist-singer Dave Allen. Their work was released on Allen's World Domination Recordings. Their sound can be characterized as bass-driven, progressive indie rock and pop, with lyrics often inspired by major literary writers of the 20th Century. After their first release, Allen's name appeared more prominently on the records' packaging as if they were solo releases rather than a band. Their last two releases were subtitled "2/20" and "3/20", the last new contributions to Allen's plan at the time to release a series of twenty records. Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. Dave Allen (producer/bassist)
David Geoffrey Allen (born 23 December 1955, in Kendal, Cumbria) is an English musician, formerly the bass guitarist for the post-punk band Gang of Four. In 1981, he left Gang of Four to form Shriekback. He later founded World Domination Recordings and participated in two bands who recorded for the label. Allen was the vocalist and primary songwriter for The Elastic Purejoy, and played bass guitar in Low Pop Suicide which was fronted by Rick Boston. He appeared on several LPs and EPs with each of these bands, though his ambitious plan to release a work of 20 volumes produced only three releases, '' The Harvest'' and the Elastic Purejoy's ''The Clutter of Pop'' and ''Talk Radio''. After leaving Shriekback in 1988, Allen founded King Swamp with other former bandmates. World Domination Recordings
World Domination Recordings was an indie rock record label founded by bass player and music entrepreneur Dave Allen in Los Angeles. From roughly 1989 to 1996 it released records by artists including Low Pop Suicide, The Elastic Purejoy, Stanford Prison Experiment, Perfume Tree, Latimer, Sky Cries Mary, Loop Guru, Sugar Plant, Contagion, and Noah Stone, and published a zine with essays by Allen and design by Ophelia Chong, called ''Clutter''. The Harvest (1993 Film)
''The Harvest'' is a 1993 Mexican-American thriller directed by David Marconi and starring Miguel Ferrer, Leilani Sarelle, Tony Denison and Henry Silva. Its soundtrack was played by artists from World Domination Recordings. George Clooney appears briefly in the film, playing a transvestite; Clooney is also a cousin of the film's leading actor, Miguel Ferrer. Plot Charlie Pope (Miguel Ferrer) is a writer who goes to Mexico to write the ending of the plot for a movie. In Mexico he is attracted to a woman, Natalie (Leilani Sarelle). They go together to a beach where when she goes away to swim, he is attacked and wakes up five days later. When he wakes up he discovers that one of his kidneys has been removed. Rather than return he decides to find the "ring" whose members removed his kidney. He begins by tracking down Natalie (whose involvement with the ring he is unsure of).
