''The Complete Vinyl Collection'' is a box set release by Scottish alternative rock band, The Jesus and Mary Chain. It was released on 12 December 2013 via Demon Music Group, marking the band's 30th anniversary. Contents The box set includes the band's six studio albums, along with a live album: *''Psychocandy'' (1985) *'' Darklands'' (1987) *'' Automatic'' (1989) *'' Honey’s Dead'' (1992) *''Stoned & Dethroned'' (1994) *''Munki'' (1998) *'' Live in Concert'' (2003) The box set marks the first vinyl pressing of the band's live album ''Live in Concert'', which contains live recordings from 1992 and 1995. Other items featured on the box set include a two-LP collection of "all" the band’s BBC studio recordings, a B-sides and rarities LP with a fan-picked track list, a 32-page hardcover book with photographs, essays and interviews, and a poster, for which fans were able to upload a photo of their face for inclusion. The Jesus And Mary Chain
The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid. After signing to independent label Creation Records, they released their first single " Upside Down" in 1984. Their debut album ''Psychocandy'' was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on major label WEA. The band went on to release five more studio albums before disbanding in 1999. They reunited in 2007 and have subsequently released the album '' Damage and Joy'' in 2017. It was originally recorded for the group's 1989 album '' Automatic'' and was released as a single in November 1989. Background In the UK, it was released in seven different formats, including four 7" singles. One 7" single was released per week, and one of them included a cardboard box to house the full set. "Darklands" is a song by Scottish rock band the Jesus & Mary Chain and the third single from their album of the same name. The single was released in October 1987 by Blanco y Negro Records on 7-inch vinyl, 10-inch vinyl, 12-inch vinyl and as a CD single. The 10-inch and the CD were entitled ''Darklands E.P.'' The single reached number 33 on the UK Singles Chart and number 23 on the Irish Singles Chart. Jim Reid
James McLeish Reid (born 29 December 1961) is a Scottish singer/songwriter and the lead singer for the alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain, which he formed with his elder brother and guitarist William Reid in 1983. Career The Jesus and Mary Chain Reid is the lead singer and founding member of the alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain. They released six studio albums before they split up in 1999. They reformed in March 2007. Freeheat Reid went on to form the band Freeheat with former Mary Chain drummer Nick Sanderson and guitarist Ben Lurie. Freeheat did several tours and released an EP, ''Retox'', before the members went their separate ways in 2003. Solo Reid released his first solo single "Song for a Secret" in 2005 on the Transistor record label, and released a follow up called "Dead End Kids" in July 2006 also on Transistor. William Reid (musician)
William Adam Reid (born 28 October 1958) is a Scottish musician, songwriter and singer, best known as being lead guitarist, songwriter, co-founder and occasional singer of the Scottish alternative rock band, The Jesus and Mary Chain. Musical career The Jesus and Mary Chain William, along with his brother Jim, the lead singer, formed the (at times unstable) core of the band. The early sound of The Jesus and Mary Chain was defined by Reid's extremely distorted and feedback laden hollowbody guitar work, often using the Shin-ei Companion WF-8 fuzz-wah box to get his unique sound, which verged on white noise. Reid effectively ended the band in late 1998, when he walked off stage fifteen minutes into a show at the House of Blues.
