The Canadian (film)
''The Canadian'' is an extant 1926 American silent drama film produced by Famous Players-Lasky and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is based on a 1913 Broadway play, ''The Land of Promise'', by W. Somerset Maugham. The film was directed by William Beaudine and starred Thomas Meighan. Meighan had costarred with Billie Burke in a 1917 silent film based on the same story, ''The Land of Promise''. In both films he plays the same part. William Beaudine
William Washington Beaudine (January 15, 1892 – March 18, 1970) was an American film actor and director. He was one of Hollywood's most prolific directors, turning out films in remarkable numbers and in a wide variety of genres. Life and career Born in New York City, Beaudine began his career as an actor in 1909 with American Mutoscope and Biograph Company. He married Marguerite Fleischer in 1914 and they stayed married until his death. Her sister was the mother of actor Bobby Anderson. Beaudine's brother Harold Beaudine was a director of short action-filled comedy films. In 1915 he was hired as an actor and director by the Kalem Company. He was an assistant to director D.W. Griffith on '' The Birth of a Nation'' and '' Intolerance''. By the time he was 23 Beaudine had directed his first picture, a short called ''Almost a King'' (1915). Dale Fuller (born Marie Dale Phillipps; June 17, 1885 – October 14, 1948) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1915 and 1935. She is best known for her role as the maid in ''Foolish Wives''. Early life Marie Dale Phillipps was born in Santa Ana, California on June 17, 1885. She attended convent schools in Los Angeles and Chicago. Fan magazines from the time claimed that she attended and graduated from Mills College, and Myrtle Gebhardt reported that Fuller lost her family at 19. Fuller said family illness brought her to California, where she decided to act. Career In 1908, she performed as a soubrette in the comedy ''The Trouper''. She then joined the cast of Harry Bulgur’s ''The Flirting Princess'', a musical revue, in 1910 and toured with it off and on throughout San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, and Rhode Island.
