Ludwig Berger (director)
Ludwig Berger (born Ludwig Bamberger; 6 January 1892 – 18 May 1969) was a German-Jewish film director, screenwriter and theatre director. He directed more than 30 films between 1920 and 1969. Berger began working in the German film industry during the Weimar Republic. At Decla-Bioscop and later UFA he established a reputation as a leading director of silent films. He emigrated to Hollywood, but was unable to establish himself and returned to Europe. He subsequently worked both in France and Germany. He was a member of the jury at the 6th Berlin International Film Festival. Berger also translated a few plays of Shakespeare, including ''Cymbeline'', ''Hamlet'', and ''Timon of Athens''. His elder brother was the set designer Rudolf Bamberger who was killed in 1945. Rudolf Bamberger
Rudolf Bamberger (21 May 1888 – 13 August 1945) was a German art director.Prawer p. 12 He worked as a set designer in German theatre and cinema during the Weimar era. Following the introduction of sound film, he produced several documentaries. He was the elder brother of the director Ludwig Berger, and was married to the actress Hanna Waag. The Jewish Bamberger left Germany following the Nazi takeover, and settled in Luxembourg. He was later arrested by Nazi authorities during the German wartime occupation and was sent to Auschwitz, where he was killed in there. Hubert "Hubsi" von Meyerinck (23 August 1896 – 13 May 1971) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 280 films between 1921 and 1970. Biography Meyerinck was born in Potsdam, Brandenburg, the son of Friedrich von Meyerinck (1858–1928), Hauptmann (Captain) in the Prussian Army. He grew up at his family's estates in the Province of Posen and attended the gymnasium secondary school in Godeberg. Having passed his Abitur exams, he was called up for military service as a cadet in World War I, but soon was dismissed due to a pulmonary disease. In 1917 he gave his debut as a theatre actor at the Schauspielhaus in Berlin and from 1918 to 1920 continued his career at the Hamburg Kammerspiele. Back in Berlin he performed in avant-garde plays by Carl Sternheim, as well as in several revue entertainments and kabarett venues. Rosa Valetti (25 January 1876, Berlin, Germany – 10 December 1937, Vienna, Austria), born Rosa Alice Vallentin, was a German actress, cabaret performer, and singer. Biography Rosa Valetti was born in Berlin, the daughter of industrialist Felix Vallentin and sister of actor Hermann Vallentin. She played her first roles in the theatres of suburban Berlin. Inspired by the November Revolution and her meeting with political satirist Kurt Tucholsky, Valetti began performing in cabarets. In 1920, she founded the ''Café Grössenwahn'' ("Café Megalomania"), which has been recognized as one of the most important literary and political cabarets in 1920s Berlin.
