''The Big Freeze'' is a 1993 featurette-length film written and directed by Eric Sykes. The action centres on mishaps involving a father and son plumbing team attending to business in sub-zero temperatures at a retirement home in Finland. Like other Sykes directorial vehicles, the piece is a silent comedy with a star cast - here including Bob Hoskins, John Mills, Donald Pleasence and Spike Milligan. Synopsis A silent comedy. Eric Sykes
Eric Sykes (4 May 1923 – 4 July 2012) was an English radio, stage, television and film writer, comedian, actor, and director whose performing career spanned more than 50 years. He frequently wrote for and performed with many other leading comedy performers and writers of the period, including Tony Hancock, Spike Milligan, Tommy Cooper, Peter Sellers, John Antrobus, and Johnny Speight. Sykes first came to prominence through his many radio credits as a writer and actor in the 1950s, most notably through his collaboration on ''The Goon Show'' scripts. He became a TV star in his own right in the early 1960s when he appeared with Hattie Jacques in several popular BBC comedy television series. Teisko
Teisko () is a village and former municipality in Pirkanmaa region, Finland. It was consolidated in 1972 with Tampere, and at the same time Tampere got new districts: Kämmenniemi, Polso, Terälahti and Velaatta. Teisko's neighboring municipalities were Kangasala, Kuru, Orivesi, Ruovesi, Aitolahti and Ylöjärvi. Initially, the municipality comprised areas on both sides of Lake Näsijärvi, but in 1954, the areas west of Lake Näsijärvi were connected to Ylöjärvi and Kuru. The landscape of Teisko alternates between high, often steep hills and deep, in some places gorge-like valleys. The most significant valley is the canyon formed by Kaitavesi, Paarlahti and Peräjärvi, which stretches almost 15 kilometers east of Lake Näsijärvi. Hervanta
Hervanta is a large suburb, or satellite city, of Tampere in Finland, located next to Hallila some 10 km south of the city centre. Home to a population of over 26,000, Hervanta is best known for its prefabricated blocks of flats. The total number of apartments is about 11,000. Nearly a fifth of the inhabitants (some 4,500 people) are students, many of them enrolled at the Tampere University of Technology (TUT) or the Police College. The largest student housing complex is Mikontalo, in fact nearly 3% of people in Hervanta reside there.
