Teleportation is the hypothetical transfer of matter or energy from one point to another without traversing the physical space between them. It is a common subject in science fiction literature and in other popular culture. Teleportation is often paired with time travel, being that the travelling between the two points takes an unknown period of time, sometimes being immediate. A warp, also known as a portal or teleporter, is an element in video game design that allows a player character instant travel between two locations or levels. Specific area that allow such travel is referred to as warp zone. A warp zone might be a secret passage, accessible only to players capable of finding it, but they are also commonly used as a primary mean of travel in certain games. Teleport is a neighborhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands in the urban district of Westpoort. Teleport was founded in the eighties of the twentieth century as an office location with the designation of "Telematics." Therefore, it has specific facilities in that area. The neighborhood has connections by road through the A10 motorway, railway lines, buses and underground (the Amsterdam Sloterdijk railway station). Teleport Communications Group (TCG) was the first competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) in the United States. It was founded in 1985 to compete with New York Telephone Company using fiber optics, and expanded to other major cities. The company was acquired by AT&T in 1998. Teleport (Staten Island)
The Teleport is a suburban-style 100-acre business park east of New York State Route 440 and west of the Bulls Head neighborhood of Staten Island in New York City. It includes five Class A office and specialized buildings totaling 700,000 square feet, as well as additional development-ready sites. The Teleport was developed in the mid-1980s by the government of New York City and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ), which manages it under contract to the city, focusing on new technologies and offering high-speed voice, data and video services via satellite and fiber optic connectivity. In 2001 AT&T, the Teleport's biggest tenant, moved 4,000 employees out of two office buildings on the site.
