Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University
Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University ( Turkish: ''Tekirdağ Namık Kemal Üniversitesi'') is a public university in Tekirdağ, Turkey. The university was founded 2006 under the administration of the Trakya University Rectorate Enver Duran. The Faculty of Agriculture, opened in 1982 and the Çorlu Faculty of Engineering was founded in 1992. The university has eleven faculties, three institutes, twelve vocational schools and a school of health, with nearly 30,000 students, more than 1100 academic staff and 200 administrative staff. The university is a member of the Balkan Universities Network, and was named after the prominent Turkish nationalist and intellectual Namık Kemal. Tekirdağ
Tekirdağ (; see also its other names) is a city in Turkey. It is located on the north coast of the Sea of Marmara, in the region of East Thrace. In 2019 the city's population was 204,001. Tekirdağ town is a commercial centre with a harbour for agricultural products (the harbour is being expanded to accommodate a new rail link to the main freight line through Thrace). It is also home to Martas and the BOTAŞ Terminal, both of them important for trade activities in the Marmara Region. The town's best known product remains Tekirdağ rakı although it is also known for its cherries, celebrated with a festival every June. The proximity of the Greek and Bulgarian borders means that there are honorary consulates for both countries in Tekirdağ town. Trakya University ( tr, Trakya Üniversitesi), was established on July 20, 1982. The university is located in Edirne, at Turkey's European side (Eastern Thrace). Enver Duran (born June 19, 1945 in Bursa) is a Turkish medic specialising in thoracic-cardiovascular surgery, a university professor and Chancellor (Rector) of the Trakya University, Edirne 2004-2012 (July) and since 2013 Dean of the Fakulty medicine of the Istanbul Arel University. Balkan Universities Network
The Balkan Universities Network or Balkan Universities Association (BAUNAS) is an association of universities in Southeast Europe. In its present form the body was created after the breakup of the SFR Yugoslavia and the end of the Yugoslav Wars. Association facilitates the regional cooperation in the context of expansion of higher education sector caused by the establishment of new private and public universities (in addition to traditional schools with their existing institutional links). Association helped in the exchange of experiences in the implementation of the Bologna Process at Balkan universities. Namık Kemal (21 December 1840 – 2 December 1888) was an Ottoman democrat, writer, intellectual, reformer, journalist, playwright, and political activist who was influential in the formation of the Young Ottomans and their struggle for governmental reform in the Ottoman Empire during the late Tanzimat period, which would lead to the First Constitutional Era in the Empire in 1876. Kemal was particularly significant for championing the notions of freedom and fatherland in his numerous plays and poems, and his works would have a powerful impact on the establishment of and future reform movements in Turkey, as well as other former Ottoman lands.
