Teddy Hoad
Edward Lisle Goldsworthy Hoad (January 29, 1896 – March 5, 1986) was a West Indian cricketer who played in West Indies' inaugural Test tour of England. He was the captain in the West Indies' first home Test in 1930. In all he played four Tests. Hoad was born in Richmond, Saint Michael, Barbados. Although he had modest Test performances, he had some impressive results in first-class matches against English sides in both the 1928 and 1929-30 tours, scoring 149 not out against Worcestershire in 1928 and 147 for Barbados Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. Saint Michael, Barbados
The parish of St. Michael is one of eleven parishes of Barbados. It has a land area of and is found at the southwest portion of the island. Saint Michael has survived by name as one of the original six parishes created in 1629 by Governor Sir William Tufton. The parish is home to Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Bridgetown is the centre of commercial activity in Barbados, as well as a central hub for the public transport network. Other major infrastructure in St. Michael is the international seaport of Barbados—the Deep Water Harbour. Therein, a number of cruise ships arrive and depart including various lines such as Royal Caribbean and Cunard. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. Nelson Betancourt
Nelson Betancourt ISO (4 June 1887 – 12 October 1947) was a cricketer, A Right Handed wicket keeper batsman. He was born in Trinidad and Tobago and died there. His career, at first glance, was a long one spanning the years 1905 to 1930 but in truth he played only sporadically, with long periods of cricket inactivity. His first-class debut came in Trinidad’s victory over Jamaica at Sabina Park, Kingston in August 1905, but it was more than two years before he made his second appearance. His highest score, 71 not out, was scored against British Guiana in an Inter-Colonial tournament in 1928/29 but this was the only time that he surpassed fifty runs in an innings. Betancourt’s sole Test for the West Indies came against England at Port of Spain, Trinidad in February, 1930, this being the second Test of the series. West Indian National Cricket Captains
This is a list of all men, boys and women who have captained the West Indies cricket team at official international level in at least one match. The West Indies became a full member of the Imperial Cricket Conference (now the International Cricket Council) on 31 May 1926 at the same time as India and New Zealand. It played its first test match in 1928 against England at Lord's. Their first game against other opposition came in 1930/31 when they played Australia. In the mid-1980s there were two rebel West Indian tours to South Africa, which was at that time banned from official competition because of the apartheid régime then in force there. None of the matches from the rebel tours were recognised as official Test matches and all players who toured South Africa at the time were banned from official international cricket matches for life. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Barbados
Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands.
