Tavener, Texas
Tavener is an unincorporated community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is located east-northeast of East Bernard, Texas, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 90 Alternate (US 90A) and Farm to Market Road 1952. Tavener no longer has its own post office, schools and railroad stop, as it once did. There is no road sign identifying the community though the Tavener Gin is prominently labeled on the north side of the Union Pacific railway line, which parallels US 90A. A small bar and grill and a number of homes can be found in the area. Geography Tavener is located in Fort Bend County, Texas on US 90A between East Bernard and Rosenberg. It is west-southwest of Rosenberg in a straight line. FM 1952, also known as Tavener Road, starts at US 90A and goes directly north from the Tavener area. Wallis is a city in far southeastern Austin County, Texas, United States. The city is located along State Highway 36 (SH 36) and the BNSF Railway between Rosenberg and Sealy. The city's population was 1,292 at the 2020 census. Geography Wallis is located at (29.630649, –96.062751). SH 36 heads northwest from Wallis to Sealy in Austin County and east-southeast from Wallis to Rosenberg in Fort Bend County. Brazos Independent School District
Brazos Independent School District is a public school district based in Wallis, Texas (USA). The district lies in two counties, Austin and Fort Bend. In addition to Wallis, the district also serves the city of Orchard. History In the 1970s Orchard ISD and Wallis ISD merged to form Wallis-Orchard ISD. In the late 1990s the District changed its name to Brazos ISD. The former Orchard ISD portion is in Fort Bend County and was formed from 4 Common Schools: Orchard, Randon, Krasna & Tavener. The Texas and New Orleans Railroad was a railroad in Texas and Louisiana. It operated of railroad in 1934; by 1961, remained when it merged with parent company Southern Pacific. Location The Morgan's Louisiana and Texas Railroad was a partly double-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, situated entirely within the State of Louisiana. The main line extended from Algiers, on the Mississippi River opposite New Orleans, to Lafayette, where it connected with the line of the Louisiana Western Railroad Company. Needville is a city in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. It is within the metropolitan area. The population was 3,089 at the 2020 census. History August Schendel founded the town of Schendelville in 1891 that contained his house, a store and a cotton gin. Kendleton, Texas
Kendleton is a city in western Fort Bend County, Texas southwest of Sugar Land, Texas. It was established by emancipated slaves after the American Civil War. The population was 380 at the 2010 census, down from 466 at the 2000 census. As of 2011, Darryl Humphrey was the mayor of the city. History What is now Kendleton was a part of William E. Kendall's plantation. In the 1860s Kendall divided his property into various small farms and sold the plots to African Americans who were former slaves. The community of the farms became known as Kendleton. In 1882 the New York, Texas and Mexican Railway Company established a railroad track between Rosenberg and Victoria, which passed through Kendleton. In 1884 a post office opened. In 1890 Kendleton had 25 inhabitants and a general store. In 1896 the community had two additional general stores and two churches; one was Baptist and one was Methodist. San Bernard River
The San Bernard River is a river in Texas. Orchard is a city in western Fort Bend County, Texas, United States, within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area. The community is located along State Highway 36 (SH 36) and the BNSF Railway between Rosenberg in Fort Bend County and Wallis in Austin County.
