''Five Miles Out'' is the seventh studio album by English recording artist Mike Oldfield, released on 19 February 1982 by Virgin Records in the UK. After touring in support of his previous album, '' QE2'' (1980), ended in mid-1981, Oldfield started on a follow-up with members of his touring band performing the music. The album features the 24-minute track "Taurus II" on side one and four shorter songs on side two. The songs " Family Man" and "Orabidoo" are credited to Oldfield and members of his touring band which included vocalist Maggie Reilly, drummer Morris Pert, and guitarist Rick Fenn. ''QE2'' is the sixth studio album by Mike Oldfield, released in 1980 on Virgin Records. The album was named after the ocean liner ''Queen Elizabeth 2''. The album contained both original Oldfield compositions as well as two cover versions of pieces recorded by other bands (" Arrival" by ABBA and "Wonderful Land" by The Shadows). Though only reaching number twelve on the German album charts, the album became the best-selling album of 1981 in Germany. Album analysis The longest tracks on the album are "Taurus I" and the title track, "QE2", lasting 10 minutes and 7 minutes respectively. Some years later The Shadows responded to Oldfield's cover of "Wonderful Land", by releasing a cover of Oldfield's " Moonlight Shadow". The cover songs were released as singles. "Taurus" is an instrumental by American rock band Spirit, recorded in November 1967 by guitarist/singer Randy California. The recording was released in 1968 on the band's debut album, '' Spirit''. It is perhaps best known for having similarities with the 1971 Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven", in which guitarist Jimmy Page used an opening acoustic guitar arpeggio bearing a resemblance to the instrumental without any legal permission from the band. Controversy It has been alleged that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used the descending guitar-figure from "Taurus" for Led Zeppelin's signature song "Stairway to Heaven". Led Zeppelin had opened for Spirit in an early American tour, providing the possibility that Led Zeppelin had heard the Spirit song before "Stairway to Heaven" was written. Smitty alongside Taurus member Domanica "Doma" Raye, and served as the lead single for Taurus's unreleased self-titled debut album. The song is also noted for its heavy sampling of Salt-n-Pepa's 1987 hit single, " Push It", which served as a tribute to the rap group. TV-2 (stylized as ·2) is a Danish pop rock band group formed in 1981 in Aarhus. The group is composed of Steffen Brandt, Hans Erik Lerchenfeld, Georg Olesen, and Sven Gaul. Having released 19 studio albums, four live albums and three compilations, they are one of the most commercially successful Danish bands of all time - according to the band's own sales figures, they have sold more than two million records. The Moog Taurus is a foot-operated analog synthesizer designed and manufactured by Moog Music, originally conceived as a part of the Constellation series of synthesizers. The initial Taurus I was manufactured from 1975 to 1981; a less popular redesign, Taurus II, followed from 1981 to 1983. Instead of a conventional keyboard, the Taurus uses an organ-style pedal board similar to the pedal keyboard of a spinet organ. This control method was chosen because the Taurus was intended to be played by foot while the player's hands played one or more keyboards, although it was often used by guitarists. While the original Taurus featured its own synthesis engine, the Taurus II was essentially the same as the Moog Rogue. In 2010, Moog issued the Moog Taurus III which closely emulates the analog circuitry of the Taurus I, in addition to adding some modern features.
