Tasmania University Union
The Tasmanian University Student Association (TUSA), formerly known as Tasmania University Union (TUU), is the peak body of student representation for tertiary students attending the University of Tasmania and was established in 1899. The Student Association is a student-led collective that is dedicated to two core principles: student leadership, and the student community. Structure The TUSA is governed by the State Council which is made up of student leaders elected by University of Tasmania students and the Board of Management (BoM). The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university, primarily located in Tasmania, Australia. Founded in 1890, it is Australia's fourth oldest university. Eric Abetz
Eric Abetz (born 25 January 1958) is an Australian politician. He was a Senator for Tasmania from 1994 to 2022, representing the Liberal Party, and since March 2024 has been a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly for the Franklin electorate. He was the Minister for Employment and the Leader of the Government in the Senate in the Abbott government from 2013 to 2015. He previously also served as Special Minister of State in the Howard government from 2001 to 2006 and as Minister for Fisheries, Forestry and Conservation from 2006 to 2007. Born in Germany, Abetz emigrated to Australia as a small child, when his father came to work for Tasmania's Hydro Electric Commission. Pierre Slicer
Pierre Slicer AO (born 2 December 1943) is an Australian judge and former political activist. He was a judge of the Supreme Court of Tasmania from 1991 to 2009 and a judge of the Supreme Court of Samoa from 2010 to 2014. He was previously state secretary of the Communist Party of Australia from 1974 to 1979. Early life Slicer was born in Sydney on 2 December 1943. His father was an American serviceman who fought in the Philippines during World War II, while his mother was an Australian woman from Dover, Tasmania. Slicer moved to Tasmania at a young age with his mother, attending St Mary's College and St Virgil's College in Hobart. Duncan Kerr
Duncan James Colquhoun Kerr (born 26 February 1952) is a barrister. He is a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia. He also served as President of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal from 2012 to 2017. Kerr was previously a politician, as the Labor member for Denison in the Australian House of Representatives, serving between 1987 and 2010. Neal Blewett, Order of Australia, AC (born 24 October 1933) is an Australian Australian Labor Party, Labor Party politician, diplomat and historian. Guy Barnett (born 4 April 1962) is an Australian politician. He is a member of the Liberal Party and was appointed deputy premier of Tasmania in 2024. He has been a member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly since 2014 and has been a state government minister since 2016. He was previously a Senator for Tasmania from 2002 to 2011. Voluntary student unionism (VSU), as it is known in Australia, or voluntary student membership (VSM), as it is known in New Zealand, is a policy under which membership of – and payment of membership fees to – university student organisations is voluntary.
