Take 30
''Take 30'' (also expressed as ''Take Thirty'') was a Canadian television newsmagazine series, which aired on CBC Television from 1962 to 1984 for 2,500 episodes. An afternoon series originally designed as a "women's show", the series gradually evolved into a showcase for serious journalism, airing documentary reports and interviews on social and cultural topics. Despite the title, the series at times aired in a 35-minute timeslot, as was the case in late 1965. The program's original hosts were Anna Cameron and Paul Soles. In 1965, Cameron left and was replaced by Adrienne Clarkson. During his time on the show, Soles was also a busy voiceover actor for animation, best known for shows such as ''Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer'' and ''Spider-Man'', both of which were produced concurrent with his work on ''Take 30''; he was also a regular on the comedic game show ''This is the Law'' during this time. This Is The Law
''This Is the Law'' was a Canadian panel game show which aired on CBC Television from 1971 to 1976. It presented short, humorous vignettes supposedly set in various towns and cities across Canada which ran with musical accompaniment rather than a soundtrack, and challenged panelists to guess which (obscure) law of that particular region was being broken by the "Lawbreaker" character (portrayed by Paul Soles), who always got arrested at the end of the vignette ( Robert Warner starred as the police officer). The vignettes were quite subtle, and more often than not, despite many guesses, the panelists were unable to come up with the law that was actually being broken, as the laws featured were generally archaic - though, at the time of production, still on the books in the featured communities. Moses Znaimer (; born 1942) is a Tajik-born Canadian media executive of jewish descent. He is the co-founder and former head of Citytv, the first independent television station in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the current head of ZoomerMedia. Early life and education Znaimer was born to Jewish parents (Aron Znaimer and Chaya Znaimer née Epelsweig) from Latvia and Poland, who had fled the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union and relocated to Kulob in the Soviet republic of Tajikistan. Following the war, his family lived in a German Displaced Persons camp, arriving in Halifax before ultimately ending up in Montreal in 1948 where they settled in a third-floor flat on Montréal’s storied Saint Urbain Street. Rita Deverell
Rita Shelton Deverell, CM (born 1945 to Versie and Hugh Shelton) is a Canadian television broadcaster and social activist, who was one of the founders of the Canadian television channel Vision TV. She also served as news director for the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network from 2002 to 2005. Born in Houston, Texas, Deverell moved to Canada in 1967, and began her television career in 1972 as the producer of a children's television program. In 1974, she joined CBC Television as a journalist, including a stint with the program ''Take 30''. In 1983, she left to become a journalism professor at the University of Regina, and in 1988 she left there to become one of the founders of Vision TV. Charles Burchill Lynch, (3 December 1919 – 21 July 1994) was a Canadian journalist and author. Biography Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Canadian parents, he moved with his family to Saint John, New Brunswick when he was two weeks old. In 1936, he started his career in journalism with the ''Saint John Citizen'' and then moved on to the ''Saint John Telegraph-Journal'', followed by the Canadian Press in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Lynch was appointed Vancouver bureau chief of the British United Press in 1940. The following year, he was transferred to Toronto to assume the position of divisional manager. Jehane Benoît
Jehane Benoît (; ; March 21, 1904 – November 24, 1987) was a Canadian culinary author, speaker, commentator, journalist and broadcaster. Benoît was born into a wealthy family in Westmount, Quebec, with a father and grandfather who were food connoisseurs. After studying at the Sorbonne and Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Paris, she started her own cooking school, ''Fumet de la Vieille France'', in Montreal. She also opened one of Canada's first vegetarian restaurants, "The Salad Bar", in 1935. Life Best known as "Madame Benoît," she wrote 30 books during her career, including the ''Encyclopedia of Canadian Cuisine'' (currently out of print).
