Taggia is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Imperia in the Italian region Liguria, located about southwest of Genoa and about west of Imperia. It has around 13,000 inhabitants. Taggia borders the following municipalities: Badalucco, Castellaro, Ceriana, Dolcedo, Pietrabruna, Riva Ligure, and Sanremo. Geography The town is divided into three parts: Taggia proper, located in the Valle Argentina in the immediate outback, it can be considered the proper centre of the city; Arma, a sea resort; and Levà, including the industrial area, placed between the other centres. The town can be found at approximately from the city of Imperia. History Tombs dating from the 10th-7th centuries BC have been found in the area of Taggia. Sanremo (; lij, Sanrémmo(ro) or , ) or San Remo is a city and comune on the Mediterranean coast of Liguria, in northwestern Italy. Ludovico Brea
Ludovico (or Louis) Brea (c. 1450 – c. 1523) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance, active mainly in and near Genoa. Brea was born into a family of coopers in Nice, and later moving to Liguria, he painted numerous altarpieces that displayed both Lombardy and Flemish influences. One of his pupils was Teramo Piaggio. His earliest definite work is the ''Mercy between Saint Martino and Catherine of Alexandria'', painted for the monastery of Cimiez, near Nice, in 1475; recent historical searches have also suggested his having painted the ''Madonna of the Confraternity of the Misericordia'' at Nice in 1465. Other notable works by Brea can be found along all the coast from Monaco to Mentone, from Taggia to Imperia (where the influence of the Lombardy painter Vincenzo Foppa can be seen, and during which time he was in the service of Pope Julius II), and from Savona to Genoa, where he was active from 1483, leaving his work to the Church of the Consolation. Genoa–Ventimiglia Railway
The Genova-Ventimiglia railway runs along the coast of the Liguria region of Italy. It was opened as a single track line between Genova and Savona in 1868, and between Savona and Ventimiglia in 1872, mostly running along a coastal corniche. The line is being doubled mainly by building an entirely new double track line parallel to the existing railway, because the line often runs through towns where there is no space for a second track. The new line also increases the maximum speed from 100 to 180 km/h. The line is mainly in tunnels: 61 km of the 74 km of line between Ospedaletti and Finale Ligure is underground, and the rest of the line has similar proportions. The longest tunnel is Caponero-Capoverde (13.135 km). This tunnel includes the new Sanremo station. The new line has fewer stations than the old, leaving some towns without a railway service.
