Tyco Toys
Tyco Toys was an American toy manufacturer. It was acquired by Mattel in 1997, becoming one of its brands. History Formation of Tyco The company was established as Mantua Metal Products by John Tyler and Jim Thomas in 1926, producing model boats and electric motors to power them out of Mantua, New Jersey. They began to produce motors for train models of all sizes. Then, in 1933, the business was moved to Woodbury Heights, New Jersey. By 1937, Mantua began selling its own ready-to-run HO scale model train. From 1942 to 1945, the production of model railroad products was suspended as the company participated in the manufacturing of precision measuring and mapping equipment for the U.S. Army and Navy in World War II. The company received the Army-Navy ‘E’ Award for excellence in production in 1945. After the war, they converted the plant back to the production of model railroading equipment. Matchbox (brand)
Matchbox is a toy brand which was introduced by Lesney Products in 1953, and is now owned by Mattel, Inc, which purchased the brand in 1997. The brand was given its name because the original die-cast toy, die-cast "Matchbox" toys were sold in boxes similar to those in which matches were sold. The brand grew to encompass a broad range of toys, including larger scale die-cast models, plastic model kits, slot car racing, and action figures. During the 1980s, Matchbox began to switch to the more conventional plastic and cardboard "blister packs" that were used by other die-cast toy brands such as Hot Wheels. By the 2000s, the box style packaging was re-introduced for the collectors' market, such as the 35th Anniversary of Superfast series in 2004 and the 50th Anniversary of Superfast in 2019. Play-Doh, also known as Play-Dough, is a modeling compound for young children to make arts and crafts projects. The product was first manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, as a wallpaper cleaner in the 1930s. Play-Doh was then reworked and marketed to Cincinnati schools in the mid-1950s. Play-Doh was demonstrated at an educational convention in 1956 and prominent department stores opened retail accounts. Tyco US-1 Electric Trucking was a slot car line made by Tyco Slot Cars from 1981 to 1985. Its theme was based around road and construction heavy-duty diesel trucks. It was marketed under the tagline of "You Control The Action!" How it works The system was originally designed to be operated from a 6.9 V DC supply, this later increased to 7.9 V DC. Both were at 2.0VA. (The transformers enclosed in overseas sets suited the local supply and plugs, but often had different output voltages). Transformers were supplied with the sets, but the vehicles can be safely worked from most modern conventional model railroad transformer/controllers, if the original US-1 control gear is not used. The trucks run on a gray variant of the Tyco Quick Clik track that provides power to the vehicles through two thin metal strips in the track, which is similar to many other HO scale road and racing systems.
