Twyford railway station serves the large village of Twyford, Berkshire, Twyford in Berkshire, England. The station is on the Great Western Main Line, west of . It is the junction station for the Henley Branch Line, Henley-on-Thames branch and is served by local services operated by Great Western Railway (train operating company), Great Western Railway and Elizabeth line. History The first Twyford station opened on 1 July 1839 and was the terminus of the GWR until 30 March 1840, pending the completion of Sonning Cutting. It was a timber building to the north of the line at right angles to the track. The actual platform was on a loop off the running line and served trains running in either direction, of which there were nine per weekday. Just to the west was a temporary engine shed, moved here from Maidenhead, the first terminus. Wokingham, or the Borough of Wokingham, is a local government district with borough status in Berkshire, England. British Rail Class 117
The British Rail Class 117 diesel multiple units (DMUs) were built by Pressed Steel Company, Pressed Steel from 1959 to 1961. It was a licence-built variant of the British Rail Class 116. Original work A total of 123 Class 117 cars were built by Pressed Steel Company, Pressed Steel between 1959 and 1961, delivered as 39 three-car units plus three pairs of spare motor coaches. The archetypal Pagoda Platform Shelter was a distinctively-shaped corrugated iron structure used by passengers waiting at railroad station, railway stations in Wales and southern England. Origins In Britain Pagoda shelters are associated with the Great Western Railway (GWR) who introduced them in 1907 and erected a patchwork of them across their network. They were manufactured by an outside supplier and delivered in kit form. They could therefore be assembled offsite, delivered on standard well wagons and craned into position, or assembled onsite, according to circumstances. The GWR opened its first Halt (railway), "Haltes" on 12 October 1903, anglicising the name to "Halt" in 1905.
