''Triad'' is an outdoor sculpture by German American artist Evelyn Franz, located in Laurelhurst Park in southeast Portland, Oregon. Description and history Originally completed in 1980 and remade in 2003, ''Triad'' was designed by Evelyn Franz, who received her Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture in 1976 from Portland State University. The abstract stainless steel sculpture was funded by the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) and is installed between Southeast 37th Avenue and Southeast Ankeny in Laurelhurst Park. Laurelhurst Park
Laurelhurst Park is a city park in the neighborhood of Laurelhurst in Portland, Oregon. The park was acquired in 1909 from the estate of former Portland mayor William S. Ladd. The City of Portland purchased the land in 1911, and the following year park superintendent Emanuel Mische designed the park in accordance with the Olmsted Plan. In 1919, the Pacific Coast Parks Association named Laurelhurst Park the "most beautiful park" on the West Coast, and in February 2001 it was the first city park ever to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park costs the city approximately $274,000 per year to maintain. History In 1909, the land that would later become Laurelhurst Park was purchased from the estate of William S. Laurelhurst is a neighborhood of vintage single-family homes and undulating streets surrounding a Laurelhurst Park, park of the same name, straddling the NE and SE sections of Portland, Oregon, Portland. Save Outdoor Sculpture!
Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!) was a community-based effort to identify, document, and conserve outdoor sculpture in the United States. The program was initiated in 1989 and ended in 1999. History Save Outdoor Sculpture! was initiated by Heritage Preservation: The National Institute of Conservation in 1989. As of 1998, volunteers had cataloged and assessed the condition of over 30,000 outdoor statues and monuments. The Smithsonian Museum of American Art became an active partner in the SOS! project, making SOS! material available online as part of the Inventory of American Sculpture at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. "Some of the most-requested materials" are available via the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation.
