Trevor Rowley
Richard Trevor Rowley FSA (born 25 May 1942) is an English landscape historian and archaeologist known for his work on the Welsh Marches, Oxfordshire and the medieval landscape. He was a founder fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford (1990) and is now dean of degrees and emeritus fellow of Kellogg College. Education He was educated at the Priory Grammar School for Boys, Shrewsbury,(1953-1960), University College London (1960-1963) and Linacre College, Oxford (1964-1966). Trevor Rowley was a postgraduate student under the landscape historian W. G. Hoskins at Oxford University. Teaching career After a short period teaching at a teacher training college in Birmingham, where he also worked as a part-time tutor for the Birmingham University Extra-Mural Department, he returned to Oxford in 1969. A fellow is a concept whose exact meaning depends on context. In learned or professional societies, it refers to a privileged member who is specially elected in recognition of their work and achievements. Within the context of higher educational institutions, a fellow can be a member of a highly ranked group of teachers at a particular college or university or a member of the governing body in some universities (such as the Fellows of Harvard College); it can also be a specially selected postgraduate student who has been appointed to a post (called a fellowship) granting a stipend, research facilities and other privileges for a fixed period (usually one year or more) in order to undertake some advanced study or research, often in return for teaching services.
