Trafalgar Railway Station
Trafalgar railway station is a regional railway station on the Gippsland line, part of the Victorian railway network. It serves the town of Trafalgar, in Victoria, Australia. Trafalgar station is a ground level unstaffed station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 1 August 1878. Initially opened as Trafalgar, the station was renamed two times. It was renamed to Narracan on 5 May 1884, then was given its current name of Trafalgar on 2 June of that year. History In 1955, electrification of the line was extended from Warragul to Moe, passing through the station. In 1958, the line from Yarragon was duplicated, and included a new down platform (Platform 2), a new signal panel and flashing light signals at the Ashby Street level crossing, located nearby in the up direction of the station. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria. It was previously the trading name of the Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. Yarragon station is a ground level unstaffed station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 1 August 1878. Initially opened as Waterloo, the station was given its current name of Yarragon on 17 December 1883. History In 1952, the line between Warragul and Yarragon was duplicated. In 1955, electrification of the line was extended from Warragul to Moe, passing through the station. In 1958, duplication of the line to Trafalgar occurred. On 2 July 1987, electrification between Warragul and Traralgon ceased. Drouin, Victoria
Drouin () is a town in the West Gippsland region, east of Melbourne, in the Australian States and territories of Australia, state of Victoria (Australia), Victoria. Bairnsdale V/Line Rail Service
The Gippsland line is a regional passenger rail service operated by V/Line in Victoria, Australia. It serves 23 stations towards its terminus in the regional city of Bairnsdale, however most services terminate at Traralgon. History Although the Gippsland line was extended to Orbost in 1916, passenger services along the line extended only as far as Bairnsdale beginning in the 1930s. In 1954 the line beyond Dandenong was electrified as far as Traralgon, with services from this time provided by the L class electric locomotives. In 1975 suburban services were extended from Dandenong to Pakenham, on what is known as the Pakenham line. By the 1980s, the motive power of trains reverted to diesel locomotives, with electrification cut back to Warragul in 1987, and to Bunyip in 1998. Side Platform
A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Side platforms may result in a wider overall footprint for the station compared with an island platform, where a single width of platform can be shared by riders using either track. A goods shed is a railway building designed for storing goods before, after, and during loading to and unloading from a train. A typical goods shed will have a track running through it to allow goods wagons to be unloaded under cover, although sometimes they were built alongside a track with possibly just a canopy over the door. There will also be a door to move goods to or from road wagons and vans, this sometimes is parallel to the rail track, or sometimes on the side opposite the rail track.
