Toronto Fury
The Toronto Furies were a professional women's ice hockey team that played in Toronto, Ontario, as members of the Canadian Women's Hockey League. The Toronto Furies played their home games at the Mastercard Centre in Toronto. The team was established in 2010 as an expansion team called Toronto CWHL during a league-wide restructuring. The team adopted the name "Furies" after the 2011 Clarkson Cup. The club won the 2014 Clarkson Cup championship in 1–0 overtime victory over the Boston Blades. In 2019, the CWHL ceased operations, as well as all teams that it directly owned including the Furies. 2010 CWHL Draft
On August 12, the Canadian Women's Hockey League hosted the 2010 CWHL Draft. The event was held at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto at 7:00pm. The first overall selection was former Ohio State hockey player and Olympic gold medallist Tessa Bonhomme. Former Olympic gold medallist Cheryl Pounder was Master of Ceremonies at the draft. Rules All five teams were allowed to protect five players who had played at least one year in the league. Only players from the Greater Toronto Area were available in the draft for teams from Toronto, Burlington and Brampton. Boston and Montreal did not draft players. National Women's Hockey League
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) was a women's professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from March 2015 until June 2023. The league was established in 2015 as the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), comprising four league-owned teams. Over time, some teams gained independent ownership and the number of teams grew to seven; teams during the league's final season in 2022–23 included the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force, and Toronto Six. Shiann Darkangelo (born November 28, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey player for the Montreal Victoire of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She has played at the international level with United States women's national ice hockey team, Team USA and won gold at the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship with the team. Courtney Birchard-Kessel (; born July 14, 1989) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player, currently serving as the head coach of the Princeton Tigers women's ice hockey team. During her playing career, she was a member of the Canadian national ice hockey team and was a three-time IIHF Women's World Championship medallist. Her debut with Team Canada was made at the 2010 Four Nations Cup. Birchard-Kessel was drafted 6th overall by the Brampton Thunder in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Kori Cheverie (born June 18, 1987) is a Canadian retired ice hockey player, currently serving as the head coach for the Montreal Victoire of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL). She is also the assistant coach of the Canadian national women's ice hockey team. She was previously the assistant coach for the TMU Bold men's ice hockey team. She was the first woman to be hired to a full-time coaching role in U Sports men's ice hockey history. Markham Centennial Centre
The Centennial Community Centre is a 2,300-seat arena and community centre located in Markham, Ontario, north of Toronto. The facility was originally built in 1972 as a 1,800-seat arena, and in 1999 renovations were made which expanded beyond the arena. Clarkson Cup
The Clarkson Cup () is an ice hockey trophy awarded to Canada's national women's champions. Commissioned by former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, the trophy was first unveiled in July 2006 when Clarkson ceremoniously presented it to the Canadian national women's team. Owing to a rights dispute with the artists who designed the trophy, it was not officially awarded until 2009, when it became, as intended, the award for the top women's club team. From 2012 to 2019, it was exclusively awarded to the winner of the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). In Canada, it has been considered the women's equivalent of the Stanley Cup. Minnesota Whitecaps
The Minnesota Whitecaps were a professional ice hockey team in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). They played in Richfield, Minnesota, part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, at the Richfield Ice Arena. Established in 2004, the Whitecaps were originally part of the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL) from 2004 to 2011. Following the dissolution of the WWHL after the 2010–11 season, the team became independent. While independent, the Whitecaps' schedule consisted mostly of games against women's college ice hockey, college hockey squads.
