Labrum (arthropod Mouthpart)
The labrum is a flap-like structure that lies immediately in front of the mouth in almost all extant Euarthropoda. The most conspicuous exceptions are the Pycnogonida, which are probably chelicerates. In entomology, the labrum amounts to the "upper lip" of an insect mouth, the corresponding "lower lip" being the labium. The evolutionary origin, embryogenesis, and morphological development of the labrum have proved to be some of the most controversial and challenging topics in the study of arthropod head structures. Embryonic nature and origin of the labrum The labrum is innervated in crustaceans and insects from the tritocerebrum (the back of the brain). However, in development, its embryonic primordium often appears at the anterior of the head and migrates backwards towards its adult position. Bronwyn Labrum is a New Zealand cultural historian and author. Labrum was born and raised in Whanganui, and attended Whanganui High School. She received a BA Hons and M.A. in history at Massey University Massey University () is a Public university, public research university in New Zealand that provides internal and distance education. The university has campuses in Auckland, Palmerston North, and Wellington. Data from Universities New Zealand ..., and was deputy editor of the student magazine '' Chaff''. She graduated with a PhD from Victoria University of Wellington in 2000. Labrum worked as curator of history and textiles at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington, and was an associate professor in the School of Design at Massey University as well as teaching history at the University of Waikato. Delta Crateris (δ Crt, δ Crateris) is a solitary star in the southern constellation of Crater (constellation), Crater. With an apparent visual magnitude of 3.56, it is the brightest star in this rather dim constellation. It has an annual stellar parallax, parallax shift of as measured from Earth, indicating Delta Crateris lies at a distance of from the Sun. Acetabular Labrum
The acetabular labrum (glenoidal labrum of the hip joint or cotyloid ligament in older texts) is a fibrocartilaginous ring which surrounds the circumference of the acetabulum of the hip, deepening the acetabulum. The labrum is attached onto the bony rim and transverse acetabular ligament. It is triangular in cross-section (with the apex represented by the free margin). Glenoid Labrum
The glenoid labrum (glenoid ligament) is a fibrocartilaginous (but not fibrocartilage, as previously thought) structure attached around the rim of the glenoid cavity on the shoulder blade. The shoulder joint is considered a ball-and-socket joint. However, in bony terms the 'socket' (the Glenoid cavity, glenoid fossa of the scapula) is quite shallow and small, covering at most only a third of the 'ball' (the Humerus, head of the humerus). The socket is deepened by the glenoid labrum, stabilizing the shoulder joint. The labrum is triangular in section; the base is fixed to the circumference of the cavity, while the free edge is thin and sharp.
