Tom Five
__notoc__ Thomas Neil Guay (born October 11, 1965), more commonly known by his stage name Tom Five (or Tom 5), is an American guitarist who joined heavy metal band White Zombiehttp://metalstorm.ee/bands/bandmember.php?member_id=14097 Metal Storm while studying art at Parsons School of Design which he attended from 1985 to 1989. Guay is more widely known as Tom Five, reportedly because his style "sounded like five guitarists playing at once". He played guitar for the metal band Angel Rot from 1988 to 2003, releasing the album '' Unlistenable Hymns of Indulgent Damage'' in 1999. Doom metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much "thicker" or "heavier" sound than other heavy metal genres.K. Noise Rock
Noise rock (sometimes called noise punk) is a noise music, noise-oriented style of experimental rock that spun off from punk rock in the 1980s. Drawing on movements such as minimal music, minimalism, industrial music, and New York hardcore, artists indulge in extreme levels of distortion through the use of electric guitars and, less frequently, electronic instrumentation, either to provide percussive sounds or to contribute to the overall arrangement. Sludge metal (also known as sludge doom or simply sludge) is an Extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that combines elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. The genre generally includes slow tempos, down-tuned guitars and nihilistic lyrics discussing poverty, drug addiction and pollution. Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep (band), Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily Distortion (music), distorted, Groove (music), groove-laden bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. White Zombie was an American heavy metal music, heavy metal band that formed in 1985. Based in New York City, they started as a noise rock band, releasing three EPs and one studio album in that style before changing to a heavy metal-oriented sound that broke them into the mainstream. Angel Rot were an American stoner metal band based in Manhattan, New York. The original incarnation of the band consisted of bassist Mike Davis, vocalist/guitarist Tom Five and drummer George Berz. History Angel Rot was formed in 1988 Manhattan by bassist Mike Davis, vocalist/guitarist Tom Five and drummer George Berz. Reception Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic awarded ''Unlistenable Hymns of Indulgent Damage'' three out of five stars, praising the guitar work but criticizing the songwriting as lackluster. He called it "one of the most unique-sounding and grammatically challenged stoner rock albums issued in 1999, even by the underground genre's already unconventional standards."
