Tom Brosius
Thomas Alan "Ferocious" Brosius (December 16, 1949 – January 11, 2019) was a track and field athlete. He was declared an "All-American" at Kansas State University in the shot put and discus events for the 1972 season, and as of his death in 2019, still holds the Maryland all class high school state record in the shot put at 64' 6 1/2" set May 25, 1968. He also held the state discus record at 184' 10" for 31 years until it was broken in 1999. After graduating from Springbrook High School in 1968, he went to Kansas State University on a football and track scholarship. As a college track and field athlete at Kansas State, he won the Big 8 Conference indoor shot put with a distance of 64 feet 3 1/2 inches, a throw that was the best in the nation at the college level that year. Takoma Park, Maryland
Takoma Park is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is a suburb of Washington, and part of the Washington metropolitan area. Founded in 1883 and incorporated in 1890, Takoma Park, informally called "Azalea City", is a Tree City USA and a nuclear-free zone. A planned commuter suburb, it is situated along the Metropolitan Branch of the historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, just northeast of Washington, and it shares a border and history with the adjacent D.C. neighborhood of Takoma. It is governed by an elected mayor and six elected councilmembers, who form the city council, and an appointed city manager, under a council-manager style of government. The Manhattan Mercury is the local newspaper for Manhattan, Kansas. The ''Mercury'' is a daily newspaper published in the afternoon five days a week, and in the morning on Sunday. No Saturday edition is issued. The newspaper is physically printed on the ''Mercury's'' own in-house presses. The newspaper also maintains an online presence. History The ''Mercury'' was founded as a weekly publication on May 9, 1884, at a time when Manhattan was already served by two other competing newspapers. It became a daily on February 8, 1909. After passing through four different owners, the newspaper was purchased by Fay N. Seaton in 1915. He was the founder of the Seaton publishing group, which still owns the paper. Manhattan High School
Manhattan High School is a public high school in Manhattan, Kansas, United States, serving students in grades 9-12. It is part of the Manhattan–Ogden USD 383. For the 2013–2014 school year, Manhattan High had an enrollment of 1,920 students. The school is divided into two campuses. The main building is the West Campus, containing grades 10–12, while the East Campus is for ninth graders. The two campuses are approximately one mile apart. Students use buses to transport between campuses. As of the most recent ratings in 2017, MHS was listed on the '' Washington Posts list of the nation's "Most Challenging High Schools" for each of the prior nine years. Concordia is a city in and the county seat of Cloud County, Kansas, United States. It is located along the Republican River in the Smoky Hills region of the Great Plains in North Central Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 5,111. Concordia is home of the Cloud County Community College and the Nazareth Convent and Academy. Cloud County Community College
Cloud County Community College is a public community college with campuses in Concordia and Junction City, Kansas. Concordia campus Cloud County Community College was founded in Concordia in 1965 and began classes in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School. The college moved to its present site in 1968. The architecture of the main campus is that of "pods" which are designed to evoke the rolling hills of the area. The athletic teams are known as the Thunderbirds (men) and Lady Thunderbirds (women).
