Semi-automatic Pistol
A semi-automatic pistol (also called a self-loading pistol, autopistol, or autoloading pistol) is a repeating firearm, repeating handgun that automatically ejects and loads cartridge (firearms), cartridges in its chamber (firearms), chamber after every shot fired, but only one round of ammunition is fired each time the Trigger (firearms), trigger is pulled. The pistol's fire control group disconnects the trigger mechanism from the firing pin/striker until the trigger has been released and reset manually, unlike the self-cycled firing mechanism in machine pistol, fully automatic pistols. A semi-automatic pistol recycles part of the energy released by the propellant combustion to move its bolt (firearm), bolt, which is usually housed inside the pistol slide, slide. After a round of ammunition is fired, the spent cartridge casing is extracted and ejected as the slide/bolt moves rearwards under recoil, the hammer (firearms), hammer/striker is cocked by the slide/bolt movement, and a ...

Delayed Blowback
Blowback is a system of operation for self-loading firearms that obtains energy from the motion of the cartridge case as it is pushed to the rear by expanding gas created by the ignition of the propellant charge. Several blowback systems exist within this broad principle of operation, each distinguished by the methods used to control bolt movement. In most actions that use blowback operation, the breech is not locked mechanically at the time of firing: the inertia of the bolt and recoil , relative to the weight of the bullet, delay opening of the breech until the bullet has left the barrel. A few locked breech designs use a form of blowback (example: primer actuation) to perform the unlocking function. The blowback principle may be considered a simplified form of gas operation, since the cartridge case behaves like a piston driven by the powder gases. Other operating principles for self-loading firearms include delayed blowback, blow forward, gas operation, and recoil operati ...

Smith & Wesson M&P
The Smith & Wesson M&P (Military and Police) is a polymer-Receiver (firearms), framed, short recoil operated, locked breech semi-automatic pistol introduced in the summer of 2005 by the American company Smith & Wesson. Most variants use a Recoil operation#Short recoil operation, Browning-type locking system, the 5.7×28mm variant uses a rotating barrel with a muzzle booster. While targeted at law enforcement agencies, the M&P is also widely available on the commercial market. History The M&P is a hybrid evolution of the Smith & Wesson SD, Smith & Wesson Sigma and Smith & Wesson SW99 design but does not share parts compatibility with the Sigma. The M&P design has an improved trigger and enhanced ergonomics that allow for end-user customization. An industry standard Picatinny rail and a higher grip has been afforded with an improved grip and beavertail. Many of the ergonomic study elements that had been incorporated into the Sigma and the Smith & Wesson SW99 were brought over to th ...

Ruger-57
The Ruger-5.7 is a semi-automatic pistol introduced in December 2019 by Sturm, Ruger & Co. It is the first traditionally-styled semi-automatic pistol to be chambered for the 5.7×28mm cartridge since the introduction of the Excel Arms MP-57 in 2012. Overview The Ruger-5.7 was introduced in December 2019 to be a more affordable alternative 5.7x28mm semi-automatic pistol compared to the FN Five-seven pistol (which had been the only other 5.7x28 pistol available to the civilian market for over 20 years). Since 2020, several different pistol designs from several different firearms manufacturers came into the market that expanded the 5.7x28mm’s growing popularity, including the PSA 5.7 Rock in January 2022, the S&W M&P 5.7 in January 2023, the TİSAŞ PX-5.7 in January 2024 and the Kel-Tec PR57 in January 2025.
