Timex Group USA, Inc. (formerly known as Timex Corporation) is an American global watch manufacturing company founded in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. In 1944, the company became insolvent but was reformed into Timex Corporation. In 2008, the company was acquired by Timex Group B.V. and was renamed Timex Group USA. Thomas Olsen purchased the Waterbury Clock Company in New York in 1941 and renamed it ''Timex'', a portmanteau of the names of ''Time'' magazine and Kleenex. Pforzheim () is a List of cities and towns in Germany, city of over 125,000 inhabitants in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, in the southwest of Germany. Laco Uhrenmanufaktur GmbH (or Lacher & Co) is a German watch manufacturer, founded in 1925 in Pforzheim by Frieda Lacher and Ludwig Hummel under the name Lacher & Co. History The company name derives from the surname Lacher and the abbreviation Co. At the company’s time of establishment in the mid 1920s, many other watch manufacturers in Pforzheim used almost exclusively Swiss movements. These movements were delivered either completely or in parts. Factory workers in the companies assembled the individual parts. In this way, they could save the customs duties. The Army-Navy "E" Award was an honor presented to companies and organizations during World War II whose production facilities achieved "Excellence in Production" ("E") of war equipment. The award was also known as the Army-Navy Production Award. The award was created to encourage industrial mobilization and production of war time materials. By war's end, the award had been earned by only 5% of the more than 85,000 companies involved in producing materials for the U.S. military's war effort. Joakim Lehmkuhl
Joakim Lehmkuhl (22 September 1895 – 15 October 1984) was a Norwegian engineer, industrialist and politician. Lehmkuhl was born in Bergen to former Minister of Labour Kristofer Lehmkuhl, and Magdalene Marie Michelsen, sister to Christian Michelsen, Norway's first independent Prime Minister. He took the initiative to form the Fatherland League (Norway), Fatherland League in 1925, and chaired the organization until 1939. He was simultaneously chairman of the board of the newspaper ''Tidens Tegn'' from 1936, until 1940 when he fled to the United States. He became co-owner of the company Timex Group USA, Timex Corporation, and was CEO and chairman until 1974. He died in Nassau, Bahamas in 1984.
