''ThreeNews'' is a New Zealand television news bulletin produced by Stuff, airing on channel Three since 6 July 2024. It is the successor to '' Newshub Live at 6pm'', which ended the day prior. Format ''ThreeNews'' is broadcast for 60 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends. Notable presenters include weeknight news presenter Samantha Hayes, weekend news presenter Laura Tupou, sports presenter Ollie Ritchie and weather presenter Heather Keats. History Background The recession of the 2020s and a decline in advertising revenue caused a drop in ''Newshub'''s revenue. Consequently, several ''Newshub'' bulletins and the current affairs programme ''The Project'' had to be shut down. After making a proposal in February 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand decided in April that it would close its news division, ''Newshub'', which would result in around 200 job losses. Stuff Limited (previously Fairfax New Zealand) is a privately held news media company operating in New Zealand. It operates Stuff, the country's largest news website, and owns nine daily newspapers, including New Zealand's second and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, '' The Post'' and ''The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, ''Sunday Star-Times''. Magazines published include ''TV Guide'', New Zealand's top-selling weekly magazine. Stuff also owns social media network Neighbourly. Stuff has been owned by Sinead Boucher since 31 May 2020. ''Newshub'' (stylised as Newshub.) was a New Zealand news service that operated from 1989 to 2024 and served as the local news division of Warner Bros. Discovery New Zealand until its closure. The division, known as ''3 News'' until 2016, had produced news bulletins and current affairs programming for the television channel Three (TV channel), Three from its inception. It also operated a news website and on radio stations run by MediaWorks Radio, MediaWorks between 2016 and 2021. The Newshub brand was launched in February 2016 as part of the division's transition to digital journalism. MediaWorks sold Three and Newshub to US multimedia company Discovery, Inc., with the acquisition completed in December 2020. On 28 February 2024, it was announced that Newshub would shut down on 5 July 2024. On 10 April 2024, the closure was confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery, with Newshub winding down on 5 July 2024.
