''This Wonderful Life'' is the second studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Stephen Cummings. The album was released in August 1986 and peaked at number 69 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Reception Toby Crewel from Rolling Stone Australia said "There is a strength that runs through this album which saves the sentiment from becoming maudlin. While Cummings' characters could easily sound resigned, they instead sound strong in their lonesomeness. Stephen Cummings
Stephen Donald Cummings (born 13 September 1954) is an Australian rock singer and songwriter. He was the lead singer of Melbourne-based rock band the Sports from 1976 to 1981, followed by a solo career which has met with critical acclaim but has had limited commercial success. He has written two novels, ''Wonderboy'' (1996) and ''Stay Away from Lightning Girl'' (1999), and a memoir, '' Will It Be Funny Tomorrow, Billy'' (2009). In 2014 a documentary film, ''Don't Throw Stones'', based on his memoir premiered as part of the Melbourne International Film Festival. Early years Stephen Cummings was born in 1954 in Melbourne and grew up in the suburb of Camberwell. He was the vocalist for Ewe and the Merinos. ''Senso'' is the debut studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Stephen Cummings, released in 1984. The album spawned the singles "We All Make Mistakes", "Stuck on Love", "Backstabbers", "Gymnasium", and "Another Kick in the Head". It peaked at number 46 on the Australian Kent Music Report. Kent Music Report
The Kent Music Report was a weekly record chart of Australian music singles and albums which was compiled by music enthusiast David Kent from May 1974 through to January 1999. The chart was re-branded the Australian Music Report (AMR) in July 1987. From June 1988, the Australian Recording Industry Association, which had been using the top 50 portion of the report under licence since mid-1983, chose to produce their own listing as the ARIA Charts. Before the Kent Report, '' Go-Set'' magazine published weekly Top-40 Singles from 1966, and Album charts from 1970 until the magazine's demise in August 1974. The Sports
The Sports were an Australian rock group which performed and recorded between 1976 and 1981. Mainstay members were Stephen Cummings on lead vocals and Robert Glover on bass guitar, with long-term members such as Paul Hitchins on drums, Andrew Pendlebury on lead guitar and vocals, and Martin Armiger on guitar. Their style was similar to both 1970s British pub rock bands (such as Brinsley Schwarz) and British new wave (such as Elvis Costello). Andrew Scott Pendlebury (born 1952) is an Australian guitarist-songwriter. From 1977 to 1981 was a member of The Sports and from 1986 to 1988 he joined Slaughtermen. He has undertaken other projects and issued four solo albums. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1993, Pendlebury's solo work, '' Don't Hold Back That Feeling'', won the ARIA Award for Best Adult Contemporary Album. From 2003 he has been a member of The Mercurials. Early years Andrew Scott Pendlebury was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1952 and grew up there. Ian Stephen
Ian Stephen is an Australian-American musician. In 1984, with bass player Mark Ferrie, guitarists Terry Doolan and Andrew Pendlebury, and drummer Des Hefner, Ian formed the Slaughtermen in Melbourne, a mid eighties post-punk alternative Southern gospel group (albeit 12,000 miles away from their original source of inspiration, America's Deep South Bible Belt). Around this time Ian began private voice lessons with vocal coach Eve Godley and later at the Melba Conservatorium. Much earlier Ian had studied piano at the Andrios School of Music in Footscray, which was also attended by Mark Ferrie, although not at the same time. Prior to the Slaughtermen, Ian's checkered career included The Armchairs, a satirical four piece outfit co-founded with Johnny Topper which had its debut in 1979 at the infamous Crystal Ballroom in St Kilda.
