Theatre Royal (Australian TV Series)
''Theatre Royal'' is a Logie award-winning Australian vaudeville variety show, variety television show produced at BTQ, BTQ-7 in Brisbane from 1961 to 1968. Overview George Leonard Wallace, George Wallace Jnr was the show's main host and star attraction. The show reproduced the stage of the defunct Theatre Royal, Brisbane, Theatre Royal in Brisbane, complete with curtains, footlights, stage props, dancing girls, and camera shots replicating the ambience of a bygone era. In 1962 Gladys Moncrieff made guest appearances on the show. Other people appearing on the show included Brian Cahill, Dick McCann (comedian), Dick McCann, Gay Kayler and Rowena Wallace. One very popular episode of the show was produced at the RAAF Base Amberley. The show won six consecutive Logie Awards from 1962 to 1967. George Leonard Wallace known as George Wallace Jnr (16 May 1918 – 30 September 1968), was an Australian comedian, vaudeville, vaudevillian, and television personality. The son of George Wallace (Australian comedian), George Stephenson Wallace, he became a famous comedian in his own right, having considerable success on television in the late 1950s and 1960s, winning Logie Awards in 1963 and 1964. Wallace's television show, ''Theatre Royal (Australian TV series), Theatre Royal'', which originated in Brisbane, won six consecutive Logie Awards from 1962 to 1967. Early and personal life Wallace was born in Walkerston, Queensland to comedian George Stevenson "Onkus" Wallace and Margarita Edith Emma, née Nicholas, and first appeared on stage aged three in Sydney with his father.
