The Route (film)
The Route is a 2013 Ugandan drama film written and directed by Jayant Maru. The film addresses the issue of human trafficking and sex slavery, focusing on the journey of a teenage girl who becomes a victim of the international sex trade. Plot The film follows Samantha, a teenage girl whose father dies, leaving her and her mother in financial difficulty. Unable to afford her high school fees, Samantha decides to move to Kampala to look for work, despite her mother's objections. In the capital city, she becomes homeless and is approached by a stranger named Sam who offers to help her find employment. However, she is betrayed and sold to a brothel owner, who subsequently sells her to another brothel owner in Bangkok, Thailand. Shipped in a container 14,000 miles from home, Samantha becomes pregnant and is pressured to have an abortion, but she ultimately takes her own life rather than comply. ''The Route'' () is a Spanish television series created by Borja Soler and Roberto Martín Maiztegui for Atresplayer Premium which stars Àlex Monner, Claudia Salas, Ricardo Gómez, Elisabet Casanovas and Guillem Barbosa. Plot Featuring the backdrop of the clubbing movement, the fiction, following a group of friends "intensely living" the aforementioned cultural scene, starts in 1993 (when the massified "route" was declining), going backwards in time down to 1981. Cast Production Created by and Roberto Martín Maiztegui, ''La ruta'' is an Atresmedia Televisión and Caballo Films production. Consisting of 8 episodes, the series was directed by Borja Soler (episodes 1, 2, 3 and 8), Belén Funes (4 and 5) and Carlos Marqués-Marcet (6 and 7). The Route () was a medieval territory in Gaelic Ireland, located on the north-east coast of Ulster. It stretched between Coleraine and Ballycastle and as far south as the Clogh River. Originally part of Twescard, a county of the Earldom of Ulster, it was later ruled by the MacQuillans and then the MacDonnells. The murder of the Earl of Ulster in 1333 saw the Irish chiefdoms rebel and the Earldom of Ulster eventually collapsed, with it gradually almost all falling under Gaelic control.
