Party Line (politics)
In politics, "the line", "the party line", or "the lines to take" is an idiom for a political party or social movement's canon agenda, as well as ideological elements specific to the organization's partisanship. The common phrase " toeing the party line" describes a person who speaks in a manner that conforms to their political party's position, with the position frequently defined by the party leadership. The party structure pushing its representatives in parliament to vote along the line is referred to as party discipline, and efforts to enforce it are referred to as " whipping". Likewise, a party-line vote is one in which most or all of the legislators from each political party voted in accordance with that party's policies. In several countries, a whip attempts to ensure this. The Marxist–Leninist concept of democratic centralism involves strict adherence to, and defence of, a communist party's positions in public known as the general line of the party or politic ...

Party Line (telephony)
A party line (multiparty line, shared service line, party wire) is a local loop telephone circuit that is shared by multiple telephone service subscribers. Party line systems were widely used to provide telephone service, starting with the first commercial switchboards in 1878. During wartime shortages, these were often the only available lines. British users similarly benefited from the party line discount. Farmers in rural Australia and South Africa used party lines, where a single line spanned miles from the nearest town to one property and on to the next. History Telephone companies offered party lines beginning in the late 1800s, although subscribers in all but the most rural areas may have had the option to upgrade to individual line service at an additional monthly charge. The service was common in s ...

Party Line (The Kinks Song)
"Party Line" is the opening track from the Kinks' 1966 album, '' Face to Face''. The songwriting is credited to Ray Davies. On one of the earliest covers of the album (CVPV 76032.30), the song is credited R.Davies - D.Davies. Background On every release of "Party Line", the song is said to be written by Ray Davies, the main songwriter of the Kinks. However, in his critically acclaimed autobiography ''Kink'', Dave Davies (who also sang "Party Line") claimed that he had written the song rather than Ray. Dave Davies has said, "On 'Party Line' I got really stuck for lyrics; I just didn't know what to write. And Ray and I got together and busted out a few things on the piano and got a lot of ideas for it. So he helped me with the lyrics on that." However, Rob Jovanovic, author of ''God Save The Kinks: A Biography'', wrote that "Party Line" was co-written between both Davies brothers. It bears mentioning that on the ''Face to Face'' LP, the band's sixth US album on the Reprise label, t ...
