The Magic Hour (2008 Film)
is a 2008 Japanese comedy film written and directed by Kōki Mitani. This is the fourth film by director Koki Mitani, following ''The Uchōten Hotel''. Set in the fictional port town of Sukago, the film depicts the slapstick that ensues when an unsuccessful actor is turned into a "legendary hit man" by the boss of the town who has his hands on his mistress. A big movie fan, Mitani's comedy is littered with homages to famous scenes from Hollywood classics and Japanese masterpieces. As an example of homage, Eri Fukatsu sings on the crescent moon in the play, which is Woody Allen's ''Sweet and Lowdown'', and the song is ''I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles'', which Sean Penn sang to Samantha Morton. Kōki Mitani
is a Japanese playwright, screenwriter, actor and film director and was previously married to Japanese actress Satomi Kobayashi. He was named after ''Taihō Kōki'', the youngest Rikishi, sumo wrestler to become yokozuna. He studied dramatics at Nihon University. In an attempt to add his own character to his movies, his directorial approach follows a "one scene = one shot" system, whereby he Panning (camera), pans the camera around as opposed to Cut (transition), cutting. He claims this comes from his experience in theatre, where there are no cuts. Yūki Amami
is a Japanese actress. Career Amami joined the Takarazuka Revue in 1987 and retired from the stage company in 1995. Amami was the youngest actress in the company's history to be cast in a top male role. As an , she belonged to the ''Moon Troupe'' (Tsuki). She was involved in various famous musicals when she was in the company, including '' Gone With the Wind'', where she starred as Rhett Butler, and ''Me and My Girl''. Kiichi Nakai
is a Japanese actor. His name was given by Yasujirō Ozu. His father, Keiji Sada, also a movie actor, died when Nakai was only two years old. Nakai started his acting career while he was still in university and was awarded the Rookie of the Year at the Japan Academy Awards in 1981. He won the Japan Academy Best Supporting Actor award in 1994 (for ''47 Ronin'') and Best Actor award in 2003 (for '' When the Last Sword Is Drawn'').
