Melvin Burgess
Melvin Burgess (born 25 April 1954) is a British writer of children's fiction. He became famous in 1996 with the publication of ''Junk (novel), Junk'', about heroin-addicted teenagers on the streets of Bristol. In Britain, ''Junk'' became one of the best-known young adult books of the decade. Burgess won the annual Carnegie Medal (literary award), Carnegie Medal from the CILIP, Library Association, recognising the year's best children's book by a British author. For the 10th anniversary in 2007 it was named one of the top ten Medal-winning works, selected by a panel to compose the ballot for a public election of the all-time favourite. Julian Mayfield
Julian Hudson Mayfield (June 6, 1928 – October 20, 1984) was an American actor, director, writer, lecturer and civil rights activist. Early life Julian Hudson Mayfield was born on June 6, 1928, in Greer, South Carolina, and was raised from the age of five in Washington, D.C. He attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School and while there he decided on being a writer as a career. After high school, he joined the US Army in 1946 and was stationed in Hawaii before being honorably discharged. He studied briefly at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. Career Mayfield moved to New York in 1948, originally to study at New York University, but instead began a career in theatre. Patrick Quinlan is an American author, political activist, fundraiser, and briefly, a Green Independent candidate for Governor of Maine in the 2010 election. In the fall of 2009, he informed the Maine Ethics Commission that he was no longer seeking election. Biography Quinlan was born in the Bronx and raised both there and in Yonkers, New York. He attended public elementary and middle schools, and Regis High School, a tuition-free Jesuit high school in Manhattan. As a teenager, he held numerous jobs, including working for years as a caddie. His father was an alcoholic, which had a profound effect on Quinlan's development as a child and young man. The script and lyrics writer and director was Assi Dayan, the music was written by Svika Pick, and the stars were HaGashash HaHiver (The Trackers) trio. The Hit is an Irish talent show series that began airing on 26 July 2013 on RTÉ One and sees songwriters showcasing their songs to established artists. The artists then battle one another to find the perfect song they can turn into a hit. It was hosted by Aidan Power and Nicky Byrne. A pilot episode was aired in September 2012 on RTÉ Two hosted by Laura Whitmore. On 15 March 2013, RTÉ announced that the show had been ordered for a full series to be broadcast in the summer. On 30 August 2013, Finbar Furey was announced the winner of the series, with the song "The Last Great Love Song". Gerry Fleming, the song's songwriter, won the €20,000 prize. "The Hit" refers to one of the most famous plays in National Football League history: a hard tackle by the Philadelphia Eagles' Chuck Bednarik that hospitalized the New York Giants' Frank Gifford during a game played on November 20, 1960, at the original Yankee Stadium (1923), Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, Bronx, New York City, New York. Bednarik's tackle, which was legal and drew no penalty, has been widely described as likely the hardest and most vicious tackle in NFL history. In the game's fourth quarter, linebacker Bednarik tackled Gifford, a running back. Gifford was knocked unconscious, removed from the field on a stretcher, and transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a deep concussion and remained for ten days.
