Funeral
A funeral is a ceremony connected with the final disposition of a corpse, such as a burial or cremation, with the attendant observances. Funerary customs comprise the complex of beliefs and practices used by a culture to remember and respect the dead, from interment, to various monuments, prayers, and rituals undertaken in their honor. Customs vary between cultures and religious groups. Funerals have both normative and legal components. Common secular motivations for funerals include mourning the deceased, celebrating their life, and offering support and sympathy to the bereaved; additionally, funerals may have religious aspects that are intended to help the soul of the deceased reach the afterlife, resurrection or reincarnation. The funeral usually includes a ritual through which the corpse receives a final disposition. Depending on culture and religion, these can involve either the destruction of the body (for example, by cremation or sky burial) or its preservat ...

The Curse Of The Mekons
''The Curse of the Mekons'' is the ninth studio album by English rock band The Mekons, released in 1991. Due to a disagreement with A&M Records, the album was not released in the U.S. until a decade later, being available only as an import from their British label Blast First. It has been hailed by critics as one of the best of the Mekons' career. It includes a cover of John Scott Sherrill's "Wild and Blue". Background The "curse" of the title referred to the band's long-lasting lack of commercial success despite their increasingly lauded critical profile. New York Times critic Jon Pareles wrote that the band "makes great, raucous, tuneful rock albums, but no one can figure out how to sell them." Founding member Tom Greenhalgh also said that the "curse" was meant ironically as a nod to the Mekons' survival as a band for a decade and a half, as if they had been doomed to "still being around (as a rock band) despite everything else". ''The Curse of the Mekons'' was recorded durin ...

The Funeral (Grosz)

The work combines elements of Futurism and CubismWolf & Grosenick, 42 to show a funeral procession in a modern urban city, as an infernal abyss populated by twisted and grotesque attendants.Friedrich-Wilhelms, Rheinische.Widmung an Oskar Panizza (1917/18). Universität Bonn. Retrieved on 21 May 2009. The painting is dedicated to the German psychiatrist and avant-garde writer Oskar Panizza, noted for his play ''Liebeskonzil'', which draws on the first historically documented outbreak of syphilis and depicts God the Father as a senile old man. Although Panizza's works, in which he rejected all militarism and religious authority, were deemed blasphemous by both the Church and the government of Emperor Wilhelm II, they were later admired by Grosz and other idealists of his generation. The painting seeks to emulate medi ...

The Funeral (painting)
''The Funeral'' (French – '' L'Enterrement'') is an 1867–1870 oil on canvas painting by Édouard Manet, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Incomplete, its style is very close to that of ''Effect of Snow on Petit-Montrouge'' and ''The Exposition Universelle of 1867'' (Rouart, Widenstein 1975 no. 123). It is also known as ''Burial at the Glacière'' (''Enterrement à la Glacière''), the title given to it in Denis Rouart and Daniel Wildenstein's posthumous inventory of Manet's works. The work was sold by Suzanne Manet to the art dealer Portier in August 1894 for 300 francs. In 1902 it is recorded as owned by Camille Pissarro, who had known Manet well and frequented the Café Guerbois. The painting was next acquired by Ambroise Vollard, who sold it to its present owner for $2,319. Composition and dating It shows a hearse and its attendants at the bottom of the quartier Mouffetard, heading for the Montparnasse Cemetery, with the Observatoire de Paris, église No ...

Lukas Graham (2015 Album)
''Lukas Graham'' (also known as ''Blue Album'') is the second studio album by Danish band Lukas Graham. It was released in Denmark on 16 June 2015 through Copenhagen Records. The album includes the singles " Mama Said", "Strip No More" and " 7 Years". A version of the album incorporating "Drunk in the Morning" and "Better Than Yourself (Criminal Mind Pt 2)" from the band's debut (while removing "Hayo", the interlude and "Playtime") was released internationally on 1 April 2016, serving as the band's debut album in the United States and United Kingdom. Artwork The original Danish cover of the album takes its artwork from ''The Lady with the Bottles'', a 1992 painting by Danish artist Lars Helweg that is based on a nude picture of the Swedish actress Anita Ekberg that appeared in the magazine ''Playboy'' during the 1950s. The American cover was designed to be less risqué; it shows a boy looking at Helweg's painting, with his arm bent in a way that covers up the woman's breasts. Re ...
