The Curtain Falls (1934 Film)
''The Curtain Falls'' is a 1934 drama film directed by Charles Lamont and starring Henrietta Crosman as an elderly actress on the brink of retirement. This film was made and released by the Poverty Row motion picture studio Chesterfield Pictures and was filmed at RKO Studios in Hollywood. Karl Brown wrote the story and screenplay. Crosman plays an actress called Sarah Crabtree, an obvious amalgamation of the names of Victorian era stage stars Sarah Bernhardt and Lotta Crabtree. A rare film, it is now released on the Alpha DVD. Charles Lamont
Charles Lamont (May 5, 1895 – September 11, 1993) was an American filmmaker, known for directing over 200 titles and producing and writing many others. He directed nine Abbott and Costello comedies and many Ma and Pa Kettle films. Biography Lamont was born in San Francisco. Lamont came from a family of actors, being the fourth generation to be an actor. He appeared onstage while a teenager and started appearing in films from 1919. He worked as a Theatrical property, prop man before becoming assistant director. Lamont started directing comedy shorts in 1922, including for Mack Sennett and Al Christie. Some of Lamont's earliest directorial jobs were silent short-subject comedies for Educational Pictures. One of the studio's popular series was ''Juvenile Comedies'', featuring the child actor Malcolm "Big Boy" Sebastian. Bryant Washburn
Franklin Bryant Washburn III (April 28, 1889 – April 30, 1963) was an American actor who appeared in more than 370 films between 1911 and 1947. Washburn's parents were Franklin Bryant Washburn II and Metha Catherine Johnson Washburn. He attended Lake View High School in Chicago. Washburn's early acting experience came in stock theater. He debuted in film in 1911 with Essanay Studios. He quickly became a comedy star after appearing in films such as ''Skinner's Baby'' and ''Skinner's Dress Suit'' in 1917.
