The Business (magazine)
''The Business'' was a business magazine published in the United Kingdom between 2006 and 2008. Tom Rubython founded the ''Sunday Business'' newspaper in 1996, which provided a Sunday alternative to the ''Financial Times''. In the autumn of 2006, after the paper experienced financial difficulties, the David and Frederick Barclay, Barclay brothers (owners of ''The Daily Telegraph)'' acquired the title, repackaged it under the guidance of Andrew Neil, and converted to a magazine. From 2007 to 2008 the magazine was edited by Allister Heath, who had held a number of roles at the publication since 2002. On 13 February 2008, shortly after Heath's departure, it was announced that ''The Business'' magazine would be closing, to be replaced by ''The Spectator Business''. Its paid circulation had been very small and it had relied on numbers of free copies to increase its reach. During her sabbatical year, she comes to suspect that some of her colleagues are stealing from the organisation, and investigates. Plot summary The book starts with a 4:37 a.m. phone call from Mike Daniels to Kathryn (Kate) Telman. He has been drugged, and about half of his teeth randomly and expertly extracted, just before an important meeting in Japan. The Business is a powerful (yet democratic) multinational commercial organisation, secretive (but not too sinisterly so), and very long-lived. It predates the Roman Catholic Church, and descends from a consortium of merchants in the Roman Empire which it even owned for sixty-six days (it hired a man to become emperor, but he lasted less than a month before being assassinated; a reference to the emperor Didius Julianus). It is now considering ta ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
