The Assignment (1997 Film)
''The Assignment'' is a 1997 spy action thriller film directed by Christian Duguay and starring Aidan Quinn (in two roles), with Donald Sutherland and Ben Kingsley. The film, written by Dan Gordon and Sabi H. Shabtai, is set mostly in the late 1980s and deals with a CIA plan to use Quinn's character to masquerade as the Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal. Plot In 1974, Carlos the Jackal has sex and kills a spider with his cigarette then evicts the woman from his room. He dons a disguise and walks to a cafe where CIA agent Henry Fields is sitting at a table. Recognizing Fields, Carlos asks for a light. Fields does not recognize Carlos, because of his disguise. Carlos then detonates a grenade, killing dozens of people. The next year, Carlos attacks an OPEC meeting in Austria to earn a ransom. Christian Duguay (director)
Christian Duguay (born March 30, 1957) is a Canadian film and television director, producer, screenwriter, and cinematographer. He has been nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards, and is a two-time Gemini Award winner. Career Duguay graduated from the Film Production program of Concordia University, in 1979. That year, his film ''Piece Interrompue Pour Piano Sauvage'', together with Harold Trépanier, took the Best Cinematography award at the 11th Canadian Student Film Festival. He began his professional career as a cameraman and jack-of-all-trades, working in documentaries, commercials and music videos. He became known as an expert with the Steadicam and shot many movies of the week in the United States. Saint Martin is an island in Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles in the northeastern Caribbean, approximately east of Puerto Rico. In the field of counterintelligence, a double agent is an employee of a secret intelligence service for one country, whose primary purpose is to spy on a target organization of another country, but who is now spying on their own country's organization for the target organization.
