''Tess'' is a 1979 epic film, epic romantic drama, romantic drama (film and television), drama film directed by Roman Polanski, and starring Nastassja Kinski, Peter Firth, and Leigh Lawson. ''Tess'' is a 2016 South African Afrikaans-language drama based on the novel ''Whiplash'' by Tracey Farren. The film, like the novel, is set in the Capetonian seaside suburb of Muizenberg. Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a space telescope for NASA's Explorer program, designed to search for exoplanets using the transit method in an area 400 times larger than that covered by the Kepler mission. It was launched on 18 April 2018, atop a Falcon 9 launch vehicle and was placed into a highly elliptical 13.70-day orbit around the Earth. The first light image from TESS was taken on 7 August 2018, and released publicly on 17 September 2018. In the two-year primary mission, TESS was expected to detect about 1,250 transiting exoplanets orbiting the targeted stars, and an additional 13,000 orbiting stars not targeted but observed. The Telescopic Sighting System (TESS) was a sight used on the FV4201 Chieftain tank and RAF F-4 Phantom aircraft. Usage The TESS was trialed and introduced in the early 1980s originally as a tank sight for the FV4201 Chieftain. Surplus stocks were used on F-4 Phantom aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force as a cost-saving measure for a long range daytime target identification device, whereas the United States Air Force used the TISEO on their F-4 Phantoms. The TESS was installed in the rear cockpit in the centre window section for the Radar Intercept Officer to use. Nikolay Tess
Nikolay Vladimirovich Tess (, ; 1921 – December 7, 2006) was one of the few functionaries in charge of political repressions in the former Soviet Union who were convicted for this activity. Biography Tess joined the Latvian division of the NKVD in May 1945, having previously seen combat during both the Winter War and World War II. In 1949 he took part in the deportation program known as Operation Priboi, which saw tens of thousands of people deported from the Baltic states to inhospitable areas of Siberia. Tess, by now an agent of the Ministry of State Security, signed documents for the deportation of 138 people. At least eleven of the people deported died in exile. Latvia gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. In 1998 Latvian authorities began investigating Tess' role in the deportations, and in March 2001 he was formally charged with genocide and crimes against humanity.
