Telstar (song)
"Telstar" is a 1962 instrumental by the English band the Tornados, written and produced by Joe Meek. It reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in December 1962 (the second British recording to reach number one on that chart in the year, after " Stranger on the Shore" in May). It was the second instrumental single to hit number one in 1962 on both the US and UK weekly charts." Stranger on the Shore" did make number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, the ''Record Mirror'' and ''NME'' weekly charts and also topped the end of year charts. Later in 1962, Meek produced a vocal version, "Magic Star", sung by Kenny Hollywood. It was released as a single by Decca Records (cat. nr F11546), with "The Wonderful Story of Love" on the B-side, written by Geoff Goddard. The musical director for both songs was Ivor Raymonde. Telstar
Telstar refers to a series of communications satellites. The first two, Telstar 1 and Telstar 2, were experimental and nearly identical. Telstar 1 launched atop of a Thor-Delta rocket on July 10, 1962, successfully relayed the first television pictures, telephone calls, and Radiofax, telegraph images through space. It also provided the first live transatlantic television feed. Telstar 2 was launched May 7, 1963. Telstar 1 and 2—though no longer functional—still orbit the Earth. Matthew James Bellamy (born 9 June 1978) is an English singer, songwriter and producer. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, pianist, and lyricist for the English rock band Muse. He is recognised for his eccentric stage persona, wide tenor vocal range and musicianship. Bellamy was born in Cambridge. His family moved to Teignmouth, Devon, where he formed Muse with schoolmates. Knights Of Cydonia
"Knights of Cydonia" is a song by English rock band Muse. It is the closing track on their fourth studio album, ''Black Holes and Revelations'' (2006), and was released as the third single on 27 November 2006. The title refers to the Cydonia region of Mars, which gained public attention from the illusion of a rock formation which looked similar to a human face. Composition The intro, as performed on the live album ''HAARP'', is a citation of the five tone musical phrase from the film ''Close Encounters of the Third Kind''. The song uses synthesised and live trumpet parts overlaid with vocals from both Matt Bellamy's higher and lower reaches, spanning B3-E5. The guitar sound in the song was inspired by the 1962 number one hit "Telstar" by The Tornados ( George Bellamy, Matt Bellamy's father, was the band's rhythm guitarist). Ash (band)
Ash are a Northern Irish Rock music, rock band formed in Downpatrick, County Down in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. As a three-piece, they released mini-album ''Trailer (album), Trailer'' in 1994 and full-length album ''1977 (Ash album), 1977'' in 1996. This 1996 release was named by ''NME'' as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. After the success of their full debut the band recruited Charlotte Hatherley as a guitarist and vocalist, releasing their second record ''Nu-Clear Sounds'' in 1998. North London
North London is the northern part of London, England, north of the River Thames and the City of London. It extends from Clerkenwell and Finsbury, on the edge of the City of London financial district, to Greater London's boundary with Hertfordshire.
