Tamser Ali
Tamser Ali (born 27 August 1953) is an Indian politician belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the MLA of Natabari Assembly constituency in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Early life and education Ali was born on 27 August 1953 to a Bengali family of Muslim Nashya Shaikhs in Deocharai, Cooch Behar, West Bengal. He is the son of Sultan Ali and Pin Pini Bewa. Ali completed his education at the Deocharai High School. Personal life Ali married Zelekha Bibi, daughter of Bhomaruddin Mian. They have a son and two daughters. Career Ali was a primary school teacher, and a member of the Cooch Behar District Primary Education Council. He contested in the 2001 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election where he ran as a Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate succeeding Shivendra Narayan Chaudhury's 24 year long tenure as MLA for Natabari. West Bengal Legislative Assembly
The West Bengal Legislative Assembly (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Paścimabaṅga Vidhānasabhā'') is the unicameral legislature of the Indian state of West Bengal, located in eastern India. It consists of 294 members directly elected from single-seat constituencies through the first-past-the-post voting, FPTP voting system. The Assembly meets at Vidhan Sabha Bhavan in Kolkata, the capital of the state. The presiding officer of the Assembly is the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Speaker, currently Biman Banerjee. Members of the Assembly are directly elected by the people of West Bengal through elections held every five years, unless the Assembly is dissolved earlier. 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election
Legislative Assembly elections were held in 2016 for 294 seats of the ''Vidhan Sabha'' in the Indian state of West Bengal. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was re-elected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days. The first phase was held in Naxalite-Maoist affected red corridor areas with two polling dates: 4 April and 11 April. The other phases were held on 17, 21, 25, 30 April and 5 May. The result of the election was declared on 19 May. The Communist Party of India (CPI) is a political party in India. The CPI considers the December 26, 1925 Cawnpore (Kanpur) conference as its foundation date. Between 1946 and 1951, the CPI led militant struggles such as the peasant revolt in Telangana, organising guerrilla warfare against feudal lords. The CPI was the main opposition party in India during the 1950s to 1960s. In 1964, a split in the CPI led to the formation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which eventually emerged as the larger of the two parties. CPI supported the rule of Indira Gandhi, but later changed course and embraced left unity. CPI was part of the ruling United Front government from 1996 to 1998 and had two ministers under Devegowda and Gujral Ministry. Bengali Muslims (; ) [''Mussalman'' also used in this work.] are adherents of Islam who ethnically, linguistically and genealogically identify as Bengalis. Comprising over 70% of the global Bengali population, they are the second-largest ethnic group among Muslims after Arab Muslims, Arabs. Bengali Muslims make up the majority of Bangladesh's citizens, and are the largest minority in the Indian states of West Bengal, Tripura and Assam. The All India Trinamool Congress (; AITC), simply known as Trinamool Congress, is an Indian political party that is mainly influential in the state of West Bengal. It was founded by Mamata Banerjee on 1 January 1998 as a breakaway faction from the Indian National Congress and rapidly rose to prominence in the politics of West Bengal under her leadership.
