Sydney Raw
Vice Admiral Sir Sydney Moffatt Raw KBE CB (1898–1967) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Fourth Sea Lord. Naval career Raw served in World War I and fought at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. He also served in World War II and led the naval work on the recovery of the submarine HMS ''Thetis'' off Anglesey in 1939 before being given command of the submarine tender HMS ''Medway'' in 1940 and being appointed Chief of Staff to the Admiral (Submarines) in 1942. A cruiser is a type of warship. Modern cruisers are generally the largest ships in a fleet after aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, and can usually perform several roles. The term "cruiser", which has been in use for several hundred years, has changed its meaning over time. This is a list of Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty (incomplete before the Restoration, 1660). The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty were the members of The Board of Admiralty, which exercised the office of Lord High Admiral when it was not vested in a single person. The commissioners were a mixture of politicians without naval experience and professional naval officers, the proportion of naval officers generally increasing over time. In 1940, the Secretary of the Admiralty, a civil servant, became a member of the Board. Frederick Parham
Admiral Sir Frederick Robertson Parham, GBE, KCB, DSO (9 January 1901 – 20 March 1991) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, The Nore. Naval career Educated at the Royal Naval College, Osborne, and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Parham joined the Royal Navy as a cadet in 1913. He served in World War I as a midshipman on HMS ''Malaya''. In 1937 he was given command of HMS ''Shikari''. He saw active service in the Second World War as Captain of the destroyer HMS ''Gurkha'', which was sunk by enemy action in 1940. From 1942 he had command of the cruiser which remains permanently moored as a museum ship in London. Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma (25 June 1900 – 27 August 1979) was a British naval officer, colonial administrator and close relative of the British royal family. Mountbatten, who was of German descent, was born in the United Kingdom to the prominent Battenberg family and was a maternal uncle of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and a second cousin of King George VI. George Simpson (Royal Navy Officer)
Rear Admiral George Walter Gillow Simpson CB, CBE (6 June 1901 – 2 March 1972) was a Royal Navy officer who became Flag Officer Submarines. Naval career Educated at the Royal Naval College, Osborne and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Simpson was commissioned into the Royal Navy in 1917. He became commanding officer of the submarine HMS L27 in 1935 and of the submarine HMS ''Porpoise'' in August 1938. He became commander of the 10th Submarine Flotilla, based at Malta in January 1941, during the Second World War, in which role his mission was to prevent enemy supplies reaching North Africa. He went on to be Commodore Western Approaches in April 1943. Simpson became Chief of the New Zealand Navy Staff in 1948, Flag Officer Germany in 1951 and Flag Officer Submarines in 1952.
