The Swedish Defence University ( sv, Försvarshögskolan, FHS) is situated on Drottning Kristinas väg 37 in Östermalm, Stockholm City Centre, next to the campus of the Royal Institute of Technology. History Today's Swedish Defence University marks the latest development in a long line of military education tradition. The Higher Artillery College in Marieberg was established in Stockholm in the 19th century. The Swedish Defence University has existed in its present form since 1997. The University was established as a national university college on January 1, 2008, allowing it to issue academic degrees. Formerly known in English as the Swedish National Defence College, the University adopted its current name on 1 February 2015. Svea Artillery Regiment
The Svea Artillery Regiment ( sv, Svea artilleriregemente), designation A 1, was a Swedish Army artillery regiment that traced its origins back to the 17th century. It was disbanded in 1997. The regiment's soldiers were originally recruited from Svealand, and it was also garrisoned there. History The regiment has its origins in the Artillery Regiment raised in 1636. That regiment was split into four new regiments in 1794 of which Svea Artillery Regiment was one. The regiment was given the designation A 1 (1st Artillery Regiment) in 1830. In 1889 three companies garrisoned in Vaxholm became independent and formed Vaxholm Artillery Corps. In 1893 another four companies were split off to form Norrland Artillery Regiment and 2nd Svea Artillery Regiment. Due to this the regiment also changed name to 1st Svea Artillery Regiment. Ivar Backlund
Lieutenant General Gustav ''Ivar'' Backlund (14 February 1892 – 5 July 1969) was a Swedish Army officer. His senior commands include Commandant in Boden Fortress, Chief of the Army Staff and the General Staff Corps. Backlund was also military commander of the VII Military District and head of the Swedish National Defence College. Early life Backlund was born on 14 February 1892 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the son of Anders Backlund, a phytosanitary inspector, and his wife Thérese Floberg. He passed ''studentexamen'' in 1909. Career Backlund was commissioned as an officer in 1912 and was assigned with the rank of ''underlöjtnant'' to Göta Life Guards (I 2). Thord Bonde
General Count Thord C:son (Carlsson) Bonde af Björnö (17March 1900 – 18October 1969) was a Swedish Army officer. His senior commands include military commander of the VII Military District in 1955, commander of the III Military District from 1955 to 1957 and Chief of the Army from 1957 to 1963. Early life Bonde was born on 17 March 1900 in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Crown Equerry, Count Carl Bonde and his first wife Blanche (née Dickson). Lieutenant General Richard "Riri" Oscar Roger Åkerman (6July 1898 – 23June 1981) was a Swedish Army officer. He was Chief of the Defence Staff from 1951 to 1957 and military commander of the III Military District from 1957 to 1963, when he retired. Solna Municipality ( sv, Solna kommun or , ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in Sweden, located just north of Stockholm City Centre.
