Swan River Valley
The Swan River Valley (also known as Swan Valley) is a valley between the Manitoba Escarpment in the Parkland Region of Manitoba, Canada. It is located between the Porcupine Hills to the northwest and Duck Mountains to the south, as well as Thunderhill to the west and Lake Winnipegosis to the east. It includes the town of Swan River, and the Minitonas-Bowsman, Swan Valley West, and Mountain rural municipalities. With that being said, however, it has no clearly defined boundaries: although it is close to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border, the immediate area across the border is sometimes considered a part of the valley by locals, as well. It is named after the Swan River, which runs through the center of the region. Swan River Valley was recognized as the 1998 Forestry Capital of Canada. Valley
A valley is an elongated low area often running between hills or mountains, which will typically contain a river or stream running from one end to the other. Arran, Saskatchewan
Arran ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Livingston No. 331 and Census Division No. 9. Renwer, Manitoba
Renwer is a small, unorganized hamlet in the Municipality of Minitonas – Bowsman, located 9 miles east of Minitonas. The Duck Mountains are just a couple miles south of the townsite. Renwer was originally known as Fisher Siding. History The railroad arrived in 1899, and a school was built in 1914. Around the turn of the century there was a large sawmill operating south of Renwer, but it was destroyed by fire in 1902. The first church, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, was built in 1917. A grain elevator operated by United Grain Growers was brought in pieces to Renwer in 1935 but was closed in April 1977. Renwer also had two general stores a pool hall a community hall a flour-mill stockyard passenger rail station ice rink and post office. Minitonas, Manitoba
Minitonas is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Minitonas – Bowsman, Manitoba, Canada. It is surrounded by the Swan Valley and is located 15 km east of the Town of Swan River. The community is close to the Duck Mountain Provincial Park. Founded in 1898, it was categorized as a town from 1996 until 1 January 2015, when it was amalgamated with the Rural Municipality of Minitonas and Village of Bowsman. According to the 2011 census, Minitonas had a population of 522. History The Cowan Trail was blazed from Dauphin to Minitonas in 1897, and still exists today. A campsite of tents was established on the West Favel River, southwest of the present community site in 1898. In 1899, the community was moved to its present site along the railway.
