Stoke Canon
Stoke Canon is a small village and civil parish near the confluence of the rivers Exe and Culm on the main A396 between Exeter and Tiverton in the English county of Devon, and the district of East Devon. At the 2001 census it had a population of 660. The population was unchanged in 2011 but the village forms the major part of the Exe Valley electoral ward. The population of this ward was 2,041 at the 2011 Census. There is a pub, The Stoke Canon Inn, and a post office and general stores in the centre of the village. Stoke Edith
Stoke Edith is a village in the English county of Herefordshire, situated on the A438 road between Hereford and Ledbury. The population in 1801 of Stoke Edith parish was 332. The 14th-century church of St Mary is a grade I listed building. It has an immaculate needle spire set behind a parapet recess. The Foleys rebuilt the stone church completely in 1740. It has five bay arcades in the nave ended by large Tuscan columns. The church has a communion rail, pews and font in the same period with an impressive wooden pulpit in three decks. There remains an alabaster image of a 15th-century noblewoman with a distinctive headdress. The monument dated 1699 is to Paul Foley, the first to move from Great Witley, co-leader of the Tory Party and Country Whigs. There are tablets to a Henry Wolstenholme and his wife. Stoke is a small village in northwest Hampshire. At the 2011 Census the population of the village was included in the civil parish of St Mary Bourne. It lies in the valley of the Bourne Rivulet, a tributary of the River Test northeast of the town of Andover. History The 1894 OS map indicates Stoke was a very small village, perhaps qualifying as a hamlet. Two farms are listed: Hopgoods and Summerbee. Additionally, there is a Methodist chapel, the "White Hart" public house and a moderate number of further dwellings, The White Hart pub remains extant, however the days it is open are significantly limited. Stoke Orchard is a village or hamlet north-west of Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, England. Stoke Orchard was formerly home to the Coal Research Establishment of the National Coal Board, which moved onto the site of a Ministry for Aircraft Production shadow factory run by the Gloster Aircraft Company adjacent to RAF Stoke Orchard. At one point the famous aviatrix Amy Johnson lived in the village. Stoke Abbott is a village and civil parish in west Dorset, England, west of Beaminster. In 2013 the estimated population of the parish was 190. The author Ralph Wightman, agriculturist, broadcaster, and native of Dorset, described the village as "a beautiful place of deep lanes, orchards and old houses, with a church of quiet charm", and, in a similar vein, Sir Frederick Treves in 1906 considered it "as pretty a village as any in Dorset". On Waddon Hill to the northwest of the village are the remains of earthworks of an early settlement, consisting of a low bank wide and traces of a ditch, though historic quarrying around the hill may have destroyed more.
