Stockholm Municipality
Stockholm Municipality or the City of Stockholm ( sv, Stockholms kommun or ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. It has the largest population of the 290 municipalities of the country, but one of the smallest areas, making it the second most densely populated. It is also the most populous municipality in the Nordic countries. Although legally a municipality with the official proper name ''Stockholms kommun'', the municipal assembly () has decided to use the name ''Stockholms stad'' (''City of Stockholm'' in English) whenever possible. This is purely nominal and has no effect on the legal status of the municipality. Geographically, the city comprises the Stockholm City Centre and two suburban areas, Söderort (South Stockholm) and Västerort (West Stockholm). The municipalities of Sweden ( sv, Sveriges kommuner) are its lower-level local government entities. There are 290 municipalities which are responsible for a large proportion of local services, including schools, emergency services and physical planning. Urban Areas In Sweden
An urban area or () in Sweden has a minimum of 200 inhabitants and may be a city, town or larger village. It is a purely statistical concept, not defined by any municipal or county boundaries. Larger urban areas synonymous with cities or towns ( sv, stad for both terms) for statistical purposes have a minimum of 10,000 inhabitants.. Stockholm Urban Area
The Stockholm urban area ( sv, Stockholms tätort) is the largest and most populous of the statistical localities or urban areas in Sweden. It has no administrative function of its own, but constitutes a continuous built-up area, which extends into 11 municipalities in Stockholm County. It contains the municipal seats of 10 of those. As of 31 December 2019, the population in the Stockholm urban area was 1,593,426 inhabitants, the area , and the population density 4,175 inhabitants/km2. Västerort
Västerort (sometimes translated to ''West Stockholm'') is the western part of Stockholm Municipality in Stockholm County, Sweden. It also forms part of Stockholm urban area and of Stockholm Metropolitan Area. It constitutes the western suburban area within Stockholm's municipal borders. The eastern part of Västerort was incorporated by the ''City of Stockholm'' in 1916 and the western part in 1949.
