Steven Dias
Steven Benedic Dias (born 25 December 1983) is an Indian former professional footballer and current coach of MFA Elite Division outfit Ambernath United Atlanta FC. An attacking midfielder who played on the wings, he was known for his long range shooting, crossing and passing. Dias made his debut for India in 2006 and had since become a mainstay in the Indian midfield. He is known as the "David Beckham of India". Club career Dias was playing for one of India's leading clubs Mahindra United (before the club withdrew from Indian football on 30 April 2010) and played in their NFL winning team, as well as in the AFC Cup. He has since played for clubs in the I-League such as Churchill Brothers where he made 25 appearances and scored 4 goals. Dr. Ambedkar Stadium is a football stadium in New Delhi, India. The stadium is named in honour of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, famous social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution. Sunil Chhetri (born 3 August 1984) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a forward and captains both Indian Super League club Bengaluru and the India national team. The 2011 AFC Asian Cup was the 15th edition of the men's AFC Asian Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). 2008 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2008 AFC Challenge Cup football tournament was organised by AFC and was hosted by India.The tournament was played from 30 July – 13 August 2008. India won the final against Tajikistan. India was also the winner of the fair play award and the India captain Bhaichung Bhutia won the most valuable player award. Chinese Taipei was originally designated the host, but could not guarantee it would meet the AFC's standards for hosting the tournament. Nehru Cup International Football Tournament 2007
The 2007 Nehru Cup International Football Tournament, also known as the ONGC Nehru Cup due to the competition's sponsorship by ONGC, was the 13th edition of the Nehru Cup a tournament organized by the All India Football Federation since 1982. It was the first Nehru Cup after a ten-year break from 1997 to 2007. The tournament was played in the round-robin league format and the final was slated for 29 August in which India defeated Syria to claim its first title. Along with the host nation India, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Syria and Kyrgyzstan also competed in the 13-day tournament at the refurbished Ambedkar Stadium, where new floodlights had been put up specially for this tournament. I-League
The I-League (known as Hero I-League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp) is the second-tier men's professional football competition of the Indian football league system. It is currently contested by 12 clubs across the country with the winners getting promotion to play in the premier division, the Indian Super League. The competition was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007.
